The Hoosier Automobile Association urges motorists to slow down in school zones and keep alert for children and elderly pedestrians. Parents and teachers are asked to reinforce street safety, with drivers advised to anticipate danger and keep cars under control at blind intersections.
Professor J D Cline arrived in Warsaw on Monday to begin work as an instructor at the Warsaw school. He will not relocate yet and will commute as road and weather permit.
Mrs. Orpha Summe rents her fully furnished house to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith of Claypool. Mr Smith is an instructor in the schools, making the arrangement pleasant for both families.
Delbert Kerlin and Misa Freda Tucker traveled to Chicago for a several days visit last Sunday. They were joined by Mr and Mrs BE W Gresso of Warsaw for the trip in the Windy City.
Mrs Jennie Rhodes of Erie Pennsylvania widow of Clyde Rhodes was here a couple of days last week visiting relatives and friends.
Sunday guests at the Mrs Mary Glosser home near town included Ralph Floor and family Disko Robert Sippy and family Macy Orval Johnson Goshen Everett Whittenberger Emery Brandenburg Silver Lake Jonas Ira Dale Beulah Leo May and Edna Floor. A very pleasant time was had by all.
Mr and Mrs C E Wade have moved from Akron to Warsaw. Mr Wade works as a mail clerk on the Pennsylvania line and will reside in Warsaw for convenience. Mrs Wade, formerly Miss Eva McGlennen, will be a substitute teacher in Warsaw schools.
Mrs. E. P. Snyder relocated her household effects from Mentone to this place last week and will live here with her parents Mr. and Mrs. James Decker for most of the time.
Hively, 36, married of Milwood, pled guilty in court Thursday to grand larceny stealing an auto valued at $27. He received a sentence of one to two years in the Michigan City reform school or reformatory.
C I Bashore proprietor of the Silver Lake Egg Farm and Hatchery attended a special meeting of the Indiana State Poultry Association held at the State Fair Grounds in Indianapolis on Wednesday and Thursday of last week.
A heavy Warsaw storm last Saturday knocked several circuits out of service causing about an hour of darkness in the city. The outage affected the Silver Lake and Claypool feeders leaving homes and businesses without illumination until coal oil lamps were lit in readiness.
Kosciusko County residents living in California enjoyed their annual Labor Day picnic with many locals in attendance. Notable attendees included W. B. Herendeen and family Erik Snake and wife J. F. Burgraff C. G. Deaton Jud Chandler M. F. Bechtold D. L. Kemper O. W. Clemmer Lauren Kemper Mrs. L. D. Kemper and Pierce Kauffman. Mrs L. D. Kemper elected president with W. E. Herendeen as vice president and F. J. Quakenbush secretary in Los Angeles.

Mr and Mrs H D Timberman visited near Claypool with their daughter Mrs Roy Little and family on last Sunday evening. The occasion marked the eighth wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Little. Also present were Mr and Mrs David Timberman and James Timberman.
The local band gave its final concert of the season last Thursday drawing a large town crowd. They provided music above expectations and the organization unit deserves encouragement with a note that concerts may start earlier next summer.
Mrs H A Bruce and her sons Fred and Chester with Mrs Hugo Weat traveled back to Verona Illinois after several days visiting at the Lee Holderman and Ira Porter homes.
At Goshen this week the county fair reports strong attendance as crowds fill the grounds. Management carries rain insurance and would receive 87000 if rainfall reaches one tenth of an inch.
R M Frye and family are moving this week into the Hamman property in the east part of town. The vacated place will be occupied by George Ayers and family.
In Whitley County all pupils must be vaccinated or show a vaccination scar or provide proof of prior smallpox to enter school. Schools will reopen next Monday.
Mrs. G. L. Huffman died at her Palestine home Sunday night after seven months with paralysis. She was over 75 and survived by two daughters, one brother, and many relatives. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Palestine.
Samuel Shaffer returned last Saturday and decided to withdraw his divorce suit, now living with his wife as a household resumes.
E Braude shipped two car loads of poultry to the New York market in the first week.
Dr and Mrs J C Hay visited Goshen to spend a day with their son Dr BE L Hay and wife. They then traveled with Dr and Mrs H C Snyder Milford to Niagara Falls and Buffalo for a short vacation. On return they planned to stop in Cleveland Ohio to attend the National Convention of the Dental Association before arriving home early next week.
Noah Shireman and wife and Annias Swihart and wife from Akron passed through town Sunday forenoon en route to the Church of the Brethren two miles east for preaching services. Rev Swihart, well known locally, once lived nearby on the Abe Kline place and has been preaching about two years.
Mrs Sarah Fisher suffered an attack of heart trouble at her home in the south east part of town Monday forenoon. Mrs Kate Warren has been staying with her this week to help with household duties.
Kosciusko county Old Settlers gathered at Yellow Creek Lake Camp Grounds for the thirteenth annual assembly. An estimated thousand plus attendees filled the tabernacle with plans for a similar gathering next year likely in early September at the same location.
Local farmers report a bumper onion year with yields up to 600 bags per acre and prices near $1 per bag. Fred McKown and W. R. Wedrick emerged as top buyers and shippers, contracting over 500 car loads and shipping about 100 to eastern markets. Wedrick stores thousands of bushels at Hayman wareroom, while McKown and Wedrick employ nearly 50 workers to grade crate and sack arrivals for shipment.
Word arrived last week that Rev. Robert Dillman of Swayzee departed for a Colorado journey to handle business matters. He planned to visit Ray Miller in Pueblo, Colorado during the trip.
Mr and Mrs A Martindale attended a Mt Chapel reunion east of Roann with former residents from years past. The annual gathering reunites people who once lived in the locality and sparks fond memories, yielding an exceedingly good time for all.
Mrs W H Davis departed Wednesday for New York to join her husband and make the city their future home. Mr Davis has been in New York for the past few months.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Holderman drove to Kalamazoo Michigan on Sunday to visit the Stoneburners Mr and Mrs J D Stoneburner and stayed until Monday. They returned home after a three hour trip.
The Indiana Legion holds its annual encampment in Michigan City this week with an expected attendance between ten and fifteen thousand for the sessionsAnd the event gathers members for the organization’s meetings and activities.
Dick Geiger and family moved from the Mrs. Bridge property in the east part of town to Syracuse last week. Geiger will work on a nearby road project and live with his family there, leaving their North Webster residence for the winter period.
Mrs. Samuel Bashore was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne Saturday. Her condition is very serious.
Fromm Ohio Mr and Mrs William Whisler of Dayton have spent a week or more visiting J R Norman and Claude Norman homes during their stay Mrs Whisler is J R Norman's sister.
The Joe McKown Jazz Orchestra, newly formed here, toured the Keith's circuit and performed at Centennial Theatre in Warsaw on Monday and Tuesday evenings. A notable number of locals attended in the county seat.
