Last Saturday evening east of Gabiesville a church was badly damaged by an acetylene plant explosion housed in its basement. About 300 to 400 people were present with many injured including broken legs and arms and a crushed hip. no fatalities reported. Emery Shutt’s brother-in-law suffered a dislocated shoulder.
Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Crisler received a card from their daughter Ethel who is with her husband Lieutenant A. Heeter in the 42nd Infantry. The note says they left New York October 6 and were in Porto Rico a few days before the 42nd departed for the Canal Zone for an extended stay.
A Democratic speech will be given in Silver Lake on Saturday evening October 30 at 7 30. John L Downing of Frankfort will deliver the address.

Rev. A. Z. Fryberger of Warsaw will deliver a farewell sermon and resign from active ministry after eight and a half years at the local Lutheran church. He and his family plan to spend the winter in Lakeland Florida and return to Warsaw next spring. A community invitation invites all to hear his farewell address next Sunday evening.
A Halloween party will be held Monday evening at the Franklin school house at 7:30 by the entire school. Everyone is invited and urged to come in costume. A cake walk, candy, popcorn and ice cream will be on sale during the event.
Everett Yates returned home last Saturday from Dewagiac Michigan where he had stayed five weeks at the P F Helser home assisting with farm work. He reports the Helser family settled in their new home and are pleased with the country and the community.
Mrs Catherine Irvin returns to the Lafayette soldiers home after a week with her daughter Mrs Earl Spangie and family in the south part of town.
On Wednesday evening last week the local independent team hosted a North Manchester squad in the hall. The close score was 27 to 31 in favor of the visitors and witnesses say it was a hard fought, well played game from start to finish.
Residents invited to an event at the High School Auditorium on Friday evening October 29 to share memories of youth and revisit those days. The notice calls for attendees to reminisce and enjoy old times together.
Samuel Leckrone and his wife celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary last Saturday at their home on the county line road southeast of town. All of their children and families joined the celebration, marking over forty years on the same farm and a long family life in the locality.
A large town crowd attended the Democratic meeting held Thursday of last week. Hon. Fred Bowers of Huntington delivered a lengthy address to the attendees.

Howard Zobrosky eleven year old son of L H Zobrosky died Sunday near town from scarlet fever after a nearly three week illness marked by paralysis before death. A short grave service was held at South Pleasant cemetery at two o clock Monday afternoon with no public funeral. Survived by parents three brothers and four sisters, other children affected but not seriously ill and recovering.
The Warsaw Union reports that on November 2 voters will see the Republican ticket first due to a new law, the first time Democrats do not occupy the first column. The change aims to level advantage but may cause voter mistakes and require careful marking of the eagle or rooster.
Charles Young returns to the route after a brief layoff caused by a rusty nail injury at work on the farm. He endured several days of pain and used crutches during recovery before resuming duties.
Mel Roller of Goshen visited here for a couple of days at the start of the week. He called on C. L. Leonard and several old friends, recalling that the Roller family lived in this area many years ago.
Clara Keller of St. Petersburg Florida writes her and her father have moved to Florida after months up north. She says Mrs Orpha Summe and her son are in the city and comfortably settled in apartments but paying very high rent.
Claude Babcock of Alexandria is in Anderson hospital with a broken leg after being struck by a automobile while crossing a street in Anderson on Monday night. He has worked in Anderson for some time and the Babcock family once lived here.
The birth record reports Jesse E. Eschbach Jr arriving at 12 30 a.m. on a Tuesday in Warsaw. He weighs eight pounds six ounces and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J E Eschbach.
S P Leckrone will hold a public sale at his place three miles east and a mile south of Silver Lake on Saturday Oct 30 at one o clock. The auction will feature a horse two cows about eight dozen chickens 20 stands of bees about 200 bushels of oats corn in crib lot farm implements and household goods.
On Thursday of next week William Lynch will sell at his residence three miles east of Akron on the Lautzenhizer farm beginning at 1 o'clock one horse one cow farming implements household goods hay and other articles at public sale.
J. W. Engle announces a public sale on the U. B. Cline farm two miles west and seventeen miles south of Silver Lake. Items include hogs corn hay oats and various farm implements. The sale begins at Yo'elock next Wednesday.
Thomas Wiltrout of Logan Kansas arrived last Saturday for a several days visit at Mrs. E J Wiltrout’s home. He has lived in the west for forty years and rarely visits the area, though he was here four years ago.
B E Spangle of the southern town part endures several setbacks in a week. He lost a sick horse and had six to seven hundred bushels of onions harvested just as prices collapsed. With debts due soon and winter near, finance becomes a heavy burden.
James Timberman returns from Ohio where he visited his brother Frank Timberman. He reports Frank is recovering well after an appendectomy at a Fort Wayne hospital last week.
Here From Nebraska Mrs. George Kesler arrived last week for a visit with Mrs. Margaret Paulus and friends. Mr. Kesler, now deceased, was a brother to Mrs. Paulus, linking families across the region.
A pleasant social affair occurred Monday evening at the Jaques residence on West Main Heights. Mr and Mrs Jaques warmly received the Victoria Literary Club members for Benedict Night. The regular business was omitted for contests songs talks and readings. Madama Rager Kline and Hayman helped serve alooch to guests.
John Price and family of Claypool Warnk Sellers and family and Samuel Sellers traveled to Bourbon last Sunday to visit Mrs. Nancy Beede who is Samuel Sellers sister and aunt to Mrs. Joan Price. The gathering was pleasant and Beede accompanied the group home in the evening for a week or ten days of visiting with the Price and Sellers families.

Saturday incidents left Mrs Sprigg with a lacerated left hand after glass shattered while removing a Mason jar lid. She required three stitches between the thumb and forefinger. Miss Arnold suffered a badly cut arm in the same Saturday mishap.
Miss Wiliodean Arnold, 14, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oder Arnold, northeast of town, was injured Saturday when she tripped in the woodhouse and fell onto an axe blade, cutting her right wrist. A doctor treated the wound and three stitches were required.
Mazda Class of the M.E. Sunday School will serve dinner and lunch in the Pearson Room on Election day.
