State Examiner visited the Commercial and Farmers banks in Silver Lake last Thursday afternoon. He reviewed the books at both banks and found them in first class condition, the first time both institutions were examined simultaneously.
A crowd from our town traveled to Wabash last Sunday to watch the game between Wabash and the Canadian Warriors. Wabash won the match with a score of 13 to 3. The Canadian squad included several Indian players.
A large crowd attended the morning service at the M. E. church where Rev. Hardy preached his first sermon since moving from Dakota. He and his family will serve as pastor until at least the next conference when a minister will be appointed.
Arthur Gritines who had surgery at the John Cass home southeast of town for appendicitis several weeks ago has been getting along nicely. He managed to go to town on Tuesday for the first time since he fell ill.
A group gathered at the Methodist parsonage last evening bearing edibles and a sum of money to give Rev. Hardy and his family a pleasant surprise.
The third institute of the Lake township teachers will take place at district No 2 school four miles east of town. An excellent program has been arranged and several local school patrons are expected to attend.
Charles Reed died at his North Manchester home last Thursday afternoon from Apoplexy after a three week illness. He was brother-in-law to Jaco, Hiram and John Haney, having married Louisa Haney in 1574. Reed is survived by his wife and four children.
W E Billings has recently installed a linotype in the News office at North Manchester and discontinued the hand set news columns. He is congratulated on the many changes he has made since taking possession a couple of years ago.
Last week the Gresso road contractors loaded tools for shipment to Upland but stayed to fix Main street between High street and the railroad. The stretch, needing repairs for over a year, is now in excellent condition as work ends and crews return home.
Miss Belinda and her brother discuss the oddly tender heart of a former hired hand named Peter. He spares insects and animals alike, drowning none, burying kittens, and finally killing a tame dove. Belinda relishes his departure as relief from his excessive compassion.
Quarantined in his home Jerry Toffer, one of the Gresso contractors, is reported sick with typhoid like symptoms. Local authorities and family note Earl is also unwell with a similar illness, delaying work on the project.
Preaching and communion services are planned at CE OB Church next Sunday. The schedule includes a morning sermon followed by the communion service.
Mrs Amos B Reynolds aged 56 committed suicide by burning herself at her Wabash area home Thursday afternoon. She lit a trash pile in the back yard and walked into the flames while her husband was away. She told her husband she had planned death for six months.
Mrs Isaac Holderman recovers after slipping at a cider mill last week injuring her right arm dislocating it and sustaining bruises elsewhere.
A marriage license was issued in Warsaw to Elmer J. Kohl of Indianapolis and Ruth Getty of Claypool. They wed Monday at Rev Speicher's home in Claypool, then went to Indianapolis where Kohl has a good position. The RECORD extends congratulations.
Jacob Haney left the Flora hotel on Monday and now resides at the Henry Rager property on East Main street while household effects are stored in several homes around town. They plan to move into their own property on North Jefferson Street as soon as Mr Rowland vacates it.
S. B. Burdge placed a sample of Ripgwarts linoleum on the walk in front of his store and will leave it there during the daytime for a couple of weeks giving it a test as to its dur ability.
Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Haney and Mrs. Joan Haney with Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Haney attended the funeral of Charles Reed held at the home in North Manchester last Sunday at 2 30 conducted by Rev Dunlap.
Members met at Mrs. Hay's home Monday evening to conduct regular business and elect officers for the coming year.
Relatives report the death of Mrs Lydia Fiddler aged 80 at Fredericktown Ohio last Monday. She was sister to the late Benjamin Leckrone and the last Leckrone family member. She was aunt to Mesdames J M Amiss H G Groninger Soloman and Aaron Leckrone. Funeral held Wednesday.
The program for the Third Institute of Lake township teachers lists sessions on Indiana history transportation and language through letter writing. It includes model lessons for first grade by Wederick, discussions, chapters from civic literature, and committee reports with leaders J D Lee Cline and H C Snyder.
Mr and Mrs D H Miller moved from our town to Warsaw on Monday where Mr Miller has found employment in a local foundry. The note laments losing them as excellent young residents.
H M Riggie of Akron will preach here in the hall next Sunday afternoon at 2 80 o clock. An invitation is extended to all to attend. Rev Riggie is described as a powerful speaker with an excellent sermon prepared for the occasion.
Mrs. Herbert Koontz died after illness during a visit to relatives near Sidney. She was operated on at a Fort Wayne hospital but did not recover. She was over 40 and survived by her husband and three children.
T C Johnson who has run a harness and shoe shop in the Scott room for months moved his household from Laketown to the Burt property near the United Brethren church and now lives there with his wife.
A series of revival meetings at Packerton led by Rev Speicher will continue all next week. A dozen or more conversions have been reported during the events.
A pleasant time was enjoyed at the John Gall home south of town last Sunday for a family reunion. Daughters Mrs Dale Wood and Mrs Lloyd Bashore and their husbands attended.
In a playful back and forth, Miss Jinkinson and Jim Sprankle spar over love and marriage. He boasts of suitor prowess while she feigns resistance, until she admits to an inevitable engagement, declaring affection despite mutual irritation. The dialogue mocks social vanity and assumes a comic, hopeful union.
The quail season began November 10 and runs for forty days until December 20. Local hunters expect better conditions after a rainy summer, with quail fairly plentiful. Under the new law no hunter may kill more than fifteen birds per day, and selling quail remains unlawful requiring licensing, gear, and a suitable shooting place to enjoy the game.
Tom Hughes and his family who stayed above the Hiramager store this summer moved to Akron last Saturday. Hughes has found employment on a gravel road there.
Rev A Z Fryberger leads revival services at Rose Hill Lutheran Church with seven accessions reported Sunday.
The body of George J. Parrott a former Warsaw photographer was found Sunday morning with a throat cut from ear to ear and the jugular severed by a deep gash lodged against a fallen tree in the Maumee river at Fort Wayne.
S. B. Fiora and his wife have moved their household into the Crown hotel on Monday. Fiora, who married Dollie Harris at Bolivar months ago, plans Silver Lake as their future home.
A remittance form from Mahlon Rickel residing southwest of town was placed to his credit with thanks. Rickel has been a reader of the Excorpn for several years and is glad to continue reading it.

Mr and Mrs George Ayers of Lebano visited with brothers John and Edward Ayers and families. They called on friends and their sister Mrs Blanche Harris and family near Roane and on relatives at North Manchester, joined by Mr and Mrs. on the trip.
