On October 17 in Greely Colorado Mies Alda Lukens of East Auburn California and John Blue of White Pigeon Michigan wed. Blue is praised as an excellent young man of means. Lukens, a Silver Lake native, taught in local schools before moving to California. The couple now live in White Pigeon Michigan with many friends sending good wishes.
Tuesday afternoon Iris B. Smith of Akron married Miss Close Brown of Warsaw at the Methodist parsonage in Warsaw. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Brown of the north part of town. The couple will reside in Akron as friends offer congratulations.
Alvin G Hill and Daisy M Chap pel were married last week in a quiet ceremony near the residence northeast of town. The couple plans to settle at home and the Record joins friends in extending heartfelt congratulations.
John Bucher son of Mr and Mrs A J Bucher married last Saturday evening to Miss Hattie McIntyre. The couple are well known here and many friends extend congratulations.
Schools in the township closed yesterday for the remainder of the week while teachers traveled to Indianapolis to attend the state teachers association convening today. They expect to return home Saturday.
Real winter arrives with Sunday evening rain changing to snow by Monday. Temperatures fall to 2 to 8 degrees below freezing as snow covers roads and hampers farmers from coming to town.
Mrs Rebecca Jane Brown former Silver Lake resident died Sunday in a Fort Wayne hospital at age seventy one after a six year illness six months bedridden death caused by stomach cancer She was born in Pennsylvania married to Jerry Smith mother of two sons. one died in infancy She lived here about twenty years after her first husband died she later married Mr Brown who died six years later She then stayed with her son Charles Smith in Fort Wayne before hospitalization The funeral was held Tuesday at Lake View Cemetery with Rev Fryberger officiating.
Members of the 8 S. T. club were entertained last Friday evening at the home of Miss Iva McKrill. The event featured socializing and refreshments in a friendly gathering.
Members of the Victoria reading club met Monday night at Mrs. S. B. Burdge’s home. Last Friday afternoon embroidery club members were entertained at Mrs. BE. M. Fuck’s home.
Members of the U B aid society gathered last Thursday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. John Fitton for a social meeting and possible committee planning.
Wednesday night the S T Club met in the central office with Miss Hazel Brown and Miss Iva McKrill as hosts. Guests arrived in male attire and enjoyed a jolly good time.
Mr and Mrs John Ayers entertained members of the Mazda class of the Methodist Sunday school at a holloween party at their home last Wednesday evening. A good time was enjoyed by all.
Under new wartime rules effective November 15 all handling of explosives requires a license. Licenses cost 25 cents and are issued by the county clerk. Violations carry up to a $10,000 fine or one year in prison or both. The law lasts only during the war.
