Washington leads timber acreage at 2 831 acres while Vigo has the least at 873.
The February crop condition report notes generally favorable winter work in the lower Missouri and upper Mississippi valleys north of the Ohio. Winter wheat is well protected by snow in the northern belt with expected improvement in Ohio Indiana Illinois and Missouri. An ice storm from late January left ice in the Ohio valley likely to hinder crops. In Nebraska and Kansas the crop is in promising condition.
A new department at Chicago’s central post office handles wholesale stamp cancellations on a printing press. Stamps are sold to large mail order houses in lots up to $20,000, with 100 stamps per sheet and year month and Chicago il printed on each. Dealers buy 100,000s or more at a time and mail letters from main order houses, avoiding further cancellation.
