The draft plan uses glass bowls with gelatine capsules containing consecutive numbers assigned to every registered man. Secretary Baker monitors the drawing to select about 30,000 draftees, with county lists now filed in Warsaw and available at local offices and the RECORD office.
C R Rhodes and F L Townsend came home from Etna Green at the start of the week. They had spent about a month there doing carpentry for Townsend's father. A large barn was remodeled and an addition added.
William Warren, who lives southeast of town, continues in very critical condition after illness noted in the previous issue.
Levi Rhodes of the east part of town remains in poor health with little improvement over the past week and two months of illness noted. Mrs Harve Meredith of the southwest, in failing health for over a year, was in critical condition throughout the past week and briefly thought beyond recovery.
Miss Elva Rowland who has been in Detroit for several months attending school came home last Saturday for a ten days visit with her family. She will return to the city on the Straits next week.
Workmen started Tuesday morning placing forms for the concrete foundation of Charles Young's new dwelling. Whetstone of Beaver Dam south supervises, and progress is rapid as construction moves forward north of the Dr. Leckrone office.

A goodly crowd attended the Ira Cay auction sale held Saturday afternoon at his northern town business location. The sale featured groceries and various nations items among others.
Minnie Whittle resumes duties at her accustomed post on the switchboard in the central office of the Mutual Telephone Company after a week's vacation.
Across the state towns and cities deny licenses to foreign peddlers amid rising suspicion. In Warsaw three peddlers were refused and ordered to leave. In Rochester a peddler was expelled after rumors of distributing plaster tied to a leprosy scare surfaced. Authorities fear permitting peddlers during wartime.
Willi Millice of South Bend a traveling salesman leads Walter Hamman and Deverll Onderhill to Bolivar about 15 miles away. They wade in chilly water for half the night but fail to catch a frog. Millice says he enjoyed the trip and may try snipe hunting next time.
Mrs L W Myers traveled to St Louis on Sunday to visit for several weeks with her daughter Mrs James Anglin and her husband, staying with the family during the stay.
At Lake Wawasee, Mr and Mrs F L Scott of Indiana polis who had been here a week at the Pearson home left Tuesday for an outing at Lake Wawasee. Paul Kinsey from Clay pool joined Miss Tera Kern for a few hours at Lake Wawasee to attend a social affair.
Mr and Mrs J O Hay with daughter Katherine and Ed were at Lake Wawasee Sunday. They were accompanied by Miss Angelo Tyler.
Threshermen from the county met in Warsaw last Saturday to organize a union for machine owners and operators. Charles Blue was elected President, George Alexander Treasurer, and Worden Smith Secretary. A follow up meeting is set for this coming Saturday in Warsaw to discuss the workingmen's compensation law.
The Big Four last Sunday started a new timetable with trains Nos 39 46 21 34 27 40 listed. Nos 39 and 40 no longer stop here except Sundays causing longer layovers for travelers and reduced same day trips to the south.
Elder Wilson of Anderson will preach Sunday afternoon at 2 30 o clock in the town hall. The preacher is described as a forceful speaker and a large attendance is hoped for at this service.
Feeling pretty well Uncle Jacob Frantz who lives east of town and has suffered poor health for over six months has shown real improvement in the last few days. He has been bedbound for ten weeks and six doctors have attended him since Christmas.
Miss Mable Martindale will travel to Boonton New Jersey this week to visit her brother GC O Martindale and his family for several weeks.
Misa Angelo Tyler of Chicago visits J. C. Hay home for several days starting last Saturday.
Mrs George Shoemaker 65 died from a stroke while at table Saturday. Funeral was Monday at her son Riley Shoemaker’s home north of Mentone. She leaves six daughters and two sons, with burial in Nichols cemetery south of Mentone.
Last Friday afternoon the Mothers club and embroidery group were hosted at Mrs. Frye and Mrs. Burdge homes while the Mazda class of the Sunday school met Friday evening at Arthur Hively's home. No teen members attended and a good time was reported.

Attendants gathered in Roann Monday afternoon for the funeral of John Richardson who died Saturday at four p.m. after an apoplexy. He survived ten hours and remained unconscious after the attack. A Civil War veteran he is survived by his wife and one Sanghist.
A cloud burst near here on Friday afternoon drenched the area for about a half hour. Torrential rain and hail ruined corn hay wheat rye oats and garden produce across roughly seven thousand acres. Moyer nursery near Laketon reports about two thousand dollars in apple losses. Overall damage in the region rises into the thousands.
A large barn on the Joe Parker place north west of town was completed last week and dedicated Saturday evening by the Ladies Aid of the Center church with an ice cream social. The modern building will aid Mr Parker who handles extensive livestock business.
Announcements report the marriage of Olin D. Morrison and Misa Anna Harriett King in Crawfordsville on June 2. The couple will reside in Bloomington. Morrison is well known locally for four years as a school instructor and has many friends here.
Home from Valparaiso Edna Jontz and Bernice Maggert completed a three month college term and came home last Saturday after finishing their courses.
Lillian Nelson, formerly staying at the J. F. Skinner home for months, was returned to the Whites Institute near Wabash on Monday. The brief notice confirms her relocation to the institution after residence at Skinner's home.
The Akron Chautauqua attracted many locals who attended nearly every evening with Monday marking the closing program deemed an excellent entertainment by attendees.
A large crowd gathered in town last Thursday for a band concert. The audience enjoyed the music and used the event for recreation and socializing with neighbors and friends for several hours.
