Miss Edna Wiltrout left for Grand Rapids Michigan last week to stay with her aunt Mrs Wesley Marshall and devote the winter to mission work in the city. She comes well recommended by several prominent mission workers and cites her Winona experience as qualification for the undertaking.
Christena Paulus, daughter of John and Rachael Snitz, born German May 23 1828, died December 23 1906 at North Manchester Indiana. She came to America with her parents in 1830 settling in Stark County then Huntington County. She married Jacob J Paulus in 1849 and had four children. Funeral held December 28 at United Brethren Church Silver Lake with interment Lakeview cemetery.
The People's Mutual Telephone Company will meet in Silver Lake at Rager Hall on Saturday January 5, 1907 at 10 o'clock to elect a Board of Directors for the ensuing year and to transact other business presented at the meeting.
Miss Fannie Shipley travels to Texas to spend the winter with relatives. She joined her grandparents Mr and Mrs F M Shipley at Claypool on Tuesday before beginning the Texas trip. The grandparents will divide the winter between Texas Oklahoma and California.
The Lutheran Sunday School children presented a Christmas program of songs drills and recitations to a full house including the vestibule. Young performers earned praise for their sweet voices and careful training. Similar church exercises followed at the Methodist church.
Fire destroyed two outbuildings at the Norman Tucker residence east of here last Wednesday night. Neighbors led by Sylvanus Funk alerted the family and cut through roof and siding to halt the blaze, saving the house from total loss despite multiple flare ups.
Mr. Straub and son visited Tuesday to notify the office of an upcoming public sale. He stated plans are forthcoming and urged readers to watch for the official announcement.
Carter's family and Roy Miller left Tuesday for Pueblo Colorado to locate indefinitely. The Carters, former Newton county residents, had lived on the Montel farm east of town but health concerns prompted the move to a higher altitude climate. The community regrets their departure and wishes them health and happiness.
Ray Pontius died in Mentone on December 27 1906 at about twenty one. He was married to Blanche Milburn of Mentone. He had typhoid fever for a short illness. Funeral services were held at the Mentone Baptist church conducted by the Akron Baptist minister.
M. McGlennen has purchased the Robinson business room, previously used as a meat market, and plans to convert it into a flour and feed exchange. No immediate move is expected before spring.
A wedding held Christmas evening at the bride’s Mt Pleasant home united Miss Belvah Deckard and Boyd Popham with Rev. A E Sarah presiding. Approximately forty guests attended as decorations and gifts followed a supper before the couple departed by train to Chicago for their honeymoon.
The two year old child of Lafayette Paulus Trustee of Monroe township near Sidney died after ingesting candy on December 29. Doctors rushed to treat the convulsions but the child died fifty five minutes later. Rev Kain conducted the funeral on Friday at a cemetery near Sidney.
William Straub born August 30 1885 in Cleveland township Elkhart County Indiana died December 17 1906 in Lake township Kosciusko County Indiana at age 21 years 3 months 17 days. He married Virgie May Fuller November 19 1905 and leaves a wife two brothers and three sisters and a father mother predeceased. A home service was held December 19 and his remains were laid to rest at a church north of Elkhart.
A party of Texas land seekers and prospectors began their excursion from here Monday evening and continued Tuesday morning, led by T. J. Alspaugh J. G. Babcock W. J. Fitton J. A. Leckron C. E. Stout Harry Elsen G. W. Hawley and Arthur Smith.
Horace Tucker of Franklin township distributed 944 acres valued near 100000 as Christmas gifts to his children and grandchildren. Granddaughter Millie Getty, wife of Arthur Getty, is named among beneficiaries.
G. K. Smith, who went to Elkhart weeks ago to visit families and seek eye treatment, has fallen gravely ill. His condition has gradually worsened into a complication of ailments, alarming his friends.

J D Cline a Silver Creek schoolteacher directed a pupil staged program on Friday afternoon December 2. Pupils organized and executed the entertainment with no teacher assistance and received praise for the performance. They expressed appreciation by presenting Cline a fob chain and a lamp.
The children of Rev Kain and wife held a Christmas reunion at the parents’ home. Most guests arrived Saturday and stayed through Thursday for an unbroken feast and a history making gathering. The elder daughter, residing near Sausage, contributed to the cheerful event with kin nearby.
