The war revenue tax took effect Tuesday, with local retailers of cars and tobacco charged $4.80 yearly. Theatres with 250 or fewer seats pay $25 annually, 250 to 500 seats pay $350. Additional taxes apply to bills of lading, telegraph and telephone messages, bonds, deeds, deeds, and various policies. Stamps for payment come in 21 denominations from a fraction of a cent to $1000, usable for thirteen months unless extended.

Injury by horse at Hoffman place injures Albert Leffel
While helping shred fodder at the Hoffman place south of town last Saturday Albert Leffel was thrown and trampled by a horse as he led a colt from the barn. The horse, startled by the machine, knocked him down and stepped on his left leg. A physician treated him and the bone is thought to be slightly fractured.
