Louise wakes buoyant after breakfast and wanders into a blooming moorland. She meets farmer John Strangewey and shares a vision of a hidden valley village with graves and family histories. As they walk toward the churchyard, she faces a memory of marriage and a life she recalls from a tombstone.

John Strangewey rides home in a moonlit valley knowing the welcome and news awaiting him at Peak Hall. He recalls a dreamlike encounter with a woman from the accident and endures two dull days at a neighboring estate before Stephen questions why he halted on the road.
He confesses ignorance about the other world and prefers to think of her as something different. She teases his somber mood and promises to help him see things differently when he leaves his cold heights to seek flowers.
John Strangewey shows a burst of resolve after feeling life’s discontent, then grips the moment and presses onward with determined action.
