J Frank Hanley former Indiana governor and 1916 Prohibition candidate died Sunday night from injuries after his car collided with a freight train on the Pennsylvania line near Dennison Ohio. Dr and Mrs C M Baker of Kilgore Ohio also died in the crash.
The Census Bureau in Washington reports Kosciusko County population at 27,120, down 816 since 1910. The decline reflects youths migrating from farms to cities in search of work.
Samuel Smith and his wife plan to leave tomorrow for Lorain Ohio to visit his son Bert Smith and family and other relatives in the Buckeye state.
The Sprigg family and Mrs. S F McKrill with daughter spent Tuesday at Culver Lake. They joined Mr Sprigg on a local business trip that day, turning it into a day’s outing.
August 11 Farmers Day at Winona Lake aims to attract a record crowd. The Rotary Club of Warsaw will assist with planning. Officials include the National Farmers' federation VP, Indiana Farmers' association president, and Purdue University representatives. Prizes awarded for the largest delegation.
A ten day camp meeting near Claypool begins August 1 at the Simon Schultz farm three and a half miles southeast. Union Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. followed by preaching services daily including afternoons and 8:00 p.m. evenings. Bring well filled baskets for a noon basket dinner. Services continue each evening through August 8 with additional afternoon meetings on that Sunday and during the following week.
Mrs. Arthur Aldis and her young son spent the past week visiting relatives in town and at the Rodgers farm. Mrs. Aldis is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers and sister of Mrs. Erwin.
Bennie Drudge resigned as manager of the lumber yard last Saturday. Dever Underhill began work at the yard on Monday morning to assume the position and duties.
Jobin Colbert and his wife came from Minneapolis to visit his mother and relatives. They traveled by car and described the trip as very pleasant.
Clara Keller of St. Petersburg Florida requests Record to forward her subscription to Lookout Mountain Tennessee where she will reside for several months. She notes her father is fairly well and plans to attend the national G A R encampment in Indianapolis in September and visit Indiana and Ohio.
A sizeable local turnout gathered in North Manchester for the Armey reunion held Sunday. Reports say a large crowd attended and everyone enjoyed a very good time.
Irvin E. Gresso head of the accounting department at Gresso stores in Silver Lake North Manchester and Warsaw writing a popular typewriting textbook. He previously led commercial classes in Anderson and developed the material for Western Publishing. The book earned him royalties after 3336 copies were sold in the past year.
Last Sunday the Himer Christner children living southwest of town killed a large snake measuring five feet ten inches. They found the reptile had swallowed a sizable red squirrel.
Mrs. Anna Whitmyer of Elkhart traveled last Saturday to North Manchester for the Armey reunion on Sunday. She visited her brother B. BE Spangler and family and also her nephew Hallice Brown and family during the stay.

Members of the Mazda class of the Methodist Sunday School and about thirty families enjoyed a picnic at the C. T. Sittler home south of Silver Lake after Sunday School. They ate well filled baskets and spent the afternoon socially in the grove.
Bradstreet Commercial Agency asserts eighty four percent of last year's business failures occurred among firms that did no advertising. The agency says its statistics are from compiled data and urges merchants to consider advertising as a vital business element.
A Sunday baseball game between North Manchester and Fort Wayne Shamrock ended in a 6 to 6 tie after nine innings. The match finished around six o clock, noting a local law prohibiting ball playing after six on Sundays.
Akron News reports the Chautauqua event this year ended in a loss of 200 dollars for the grantors. Officers describe the job as an honor, noting they worked until midnight after the final entertainment to dismantle and haul away seats from the tent.

A crowd from Warsaw attended a game against Nappanee last Sunday. Nappanee won 6 to 5 in a close ball contest.
Samuel Schaffer of Warsaw and Lianna Sours of this place were issued a marriage license and married Monday afternoon in Warsaw. Schaffer is 76 and a Civil War veteran who has been married three times. the bride is past 60 and has been married twice. They plan to make their future home here.
A minstrel show was staged on Leesburg streets by local citizens last night with a very large attendance. Plans are under way for more free entertainments in the near future expecting large crowds.
A Sunday morning blaze at Kokomo caused by a cigarette discarded into a trash pile gutted the north side plant of Kokomo Steel and Wire and the Kokomo Lumber Company with estimated losses around 800000 dollars.
A communion set was presented at Sunday evening services of the M. B. Church by the Mazda class. The finial item costs about 65 dollars retail and is described as very neat.
Karl Morris of Boston will open a cigar factory in North Manchester using part of the Willis barber shop in the west area. Morris is a son-in-law of Mrs. Henry Hinkle, a well known local figure.

Here From Iowa E G Alspaugh and family arrived last Sunday night. Mrs Alspaugh and children visit relatives and friends while Mr Alspaugh returns Monday to work in Illinois. They formerly resided in Waterloo, Iowa, and recently visited the Fk Vv Zimmerman home at Brazil before coming to be with relatives.
Julius Magnin and his wife, who recently sold their home half a mile east of Center and held a public sale, have purchased property in Claypool. They plan it as their future home and are occupying the new property.
Merlie McGlennen from Warsaw spent several days visiting his mother and friends after having an accident weeks ago near Peru while working as a conductor on the Winona line. He sustained severe foot injuries requiring removal of a toe and is rapidly recovering at home.
