The Mentone School Board contracted Prof. W. H. Davis of Silver Lake for the coming year after screening a dozen applicants. Davis, with five years leading Silver Lake schools and current studies at Terre Haute State Normal, will move with his family to Mentone to meet patrons before September’s opening. The Gazette extends a hearty welcome and wishes success to the principal and staff.
The Lake Township Kosciusko County advisory board proposes yearly expenditures and taxes for 1900 at the School District No 6 meeting. It lists township 600 dollars and 12 cents tax per hundred, local tuition 1200 dollars at 19 cents, special school 450 dollars at 7 cents, Roan Tax 375 dollars at 15 cents, additional reapportionment 500 dollars at 8 cents, poor expenditures 440 dollars at 7 cents. Total to 3940 dollars and 68 cents per hundred. 153 polls. Signed J J Babcock, Trustee. Dated July 31, 1899.
