Silver School Dads Approve High School Building Plans

The Silver Consolidated School District Board of Education approved final schematic drawings for the new Silver High School, Manville building additions, and a library expansion. Architects Rowland Associates explained two crosswalks will connect main halls to meet traffic needs while trustees heard updates from Principal Calvin Short and Superintendent John Gaines.

North Vietnam to prosecute captured pilots as war criminals

North Vietnam said U S and Vietnamese pilots injured in North Vietnam will be tried as war criminals The International Red Cross Committee in Geneva disclosed the policy in a letter dated Aug 31 The disclosure followed a Communist publication hinting Americans captured in fighting may be executed summarily by the Viet Cong In other news U S forces repelled a large Viet Cong assault near Qui Nhon with massed enemy regiments along Highway 1 while U S air strikes inflicted heavy Viet Cong losses over the Phu Cu Pass area and bridges were blown and roadblocks placed along the highway

Grant County Voted No On Amendments in Special Election

About 15 percent of Grant County voters rejected all eight proposed amendments by up to 6-1 margins. With most units reporting by 10:30 a.m., 1,108 residents opposed Amendment No. 1 while statewide results varied. In New Mexico, 18 counties rejected a hospital indigent care levy under a 1965 law, with seven counties able to fund it within the 20 mill limit.

Mayor Proclaims National Employ the Handicapped Week

Mayor William Sochle issues a proclamation for Silver City to observe October 3 9 as National Employ the Handicapped Week. He cites the 74th Congress act and notes handicapped workers prove as efficient as non handicapped staff.
