Western New Mexico University regents described a record enrollment as they met on Thursday. The board learned of growth and expansion plans setting a positive tone for the session.
Stock subscribers met last week as the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation raised the proposed capital quota from 300000 to an unspecified amount. The meeting aimed to inform subscribers on the status of the proposed institution.
Luna County Commissioners adopted a Sept 23 resolution backing Kennecott Capper Corp in Grant County and opposing an Environmental Improvement Board ruling on Kennecott Copper in Hurley. The Grant County area sees afternoon cloudiness through Saturday with isolated thundershowers in the mountains. Winds stay gusty and temperatures rise, with Saturday’s high around 76 and tonight’s low near 49. Friday posted a high of 76 and a low of 38.
Salvation Army officials announced Camp Randolph, a 161 acre youth ranch in the Gila National Forest, 12 miles north of Silver City, will be activated in 1976. Southwest Divisional Commander Brigadier Willard Evans and Captain Max Carrol outlined plans to fund, staff, and operate year round, with emphasis on youth groups and civic, cultural, or religious sponsors. Evans described the wilderness setting and noted a projected $2 million in spending over 20 years for upkeep and programming. Donations are being sought to cover initial activation costs, with mail addressed to The Youth Department, Salvation Army, Phoenix AZ 85002, Camp Randolph designation.
