Across four national polls and a California poll Nixon leads Humphrey by a wide margin. Time and Newsweek project Nixon to win 34 states and 328 electoral votes versus Humphrey’s 10 states and 121 votes, with Wallace at four states and 39 votes. Gallup shows Nixon ahead 43 to 31 with Wallace at 19. The Times and Newsweek give Nixon sizable leads in multiple states, with Wallace carrying the Deep South and the Times outlining possible election if all leads hold.

Weekend Traffic Deaths Total 10 In New Mexico
Weekend traffic fatalities in New Mexico claimed ten lives across several incidents. David Valdez Sr., 92, of Albuquerque died when his car went off a rail overpass near Milan. Five died in a two-car I-40 crash east of Grants, including Xephen L. Alfinn, 18, Ft. Lee, North Dakota, and Richard Mazes, 23, Grants. Other victims included Robert Kanes, 21, Catskill. Michael Leeky, 24, Brussels. and Martha Levine, 21, Bronx. A Los Angeles bound limo bus overturn after a tire blowout left two dead, Manuel Villareal, 42, and Mrs. Francisco Ortiz, 43. In Tucumcari, Richard Date McGinnis, 21, was struck by a camper, and Sylvester Natewa, 13, of Zuni, died in a collision on New Mexico 53 near Ofo Caliente.

Three men and a 13 year old boy drowned during a weekend in New Mexico. Leroy Powell, 56, of El Paso Texas, and Joe Aguayo of Belen are missing after separate Elephant Butte Lake incidents near Truth or Consequences. Marine Pfc Billy McCall Rea, 29, of Tijeras New Mexico, died in Vietnam from land mine shrapnel injuries on September 9 after arriving in country August 26. He was the 100th New Mexican killed in Vietnam this year. A 1967 Great Falls High School graduate, he recently moved from Belen to Tijeras and served in the 1st Battalion of the Third Marine Division. Survivors include his mother Mrs. John Curtis of Tijeras, father Bill Rea of Carls, sister Rhoda Rea of Carlsbad, and brother John Curtis of Tijeras.
