State Park Improvements Planned in New Mexico
State Parks officials announce a $91,000 program to improve and enlarge solid waste facilities in 33 New Mexico parks in response to new state aid federal regulations. Funds were appropriated by the last legislature. Planner Dave Johnson says the project replaces trash containers across the 33 parks, including $30,000 for 73 four unit containers at park entrances and high-use areas and $36,000 for 900 32-gallon containers and 450 two can holders.

Theodore H. Schroeter Jr., age 52, died from injuries in a October 15 1978 auto wreck. A Grant County resident, he served in World War II and owned Ted's Texaco and Pen-Deb Machine Works. Survived by wife Ann and two daughters Penny Whytlaw and Deborah Ann Reiss, services Thursday at Curtis Bright Funeral Chapel with interment Fort Bayard National Cemetery. donations to Heart Fund or Bayard United Methodist Church. He held many community roles including Past Master of Santa Rita Lodge, Past Patron of Martha Chapter and Bayard Lions Club president. He worked at Phelps Dodge Tyrone Branch and Kennecott Copper Corp earlier.

President Luis Echeverria bowed to industrialists and rescinded a 7.6 percent ad valorem tax on manufactured exports and halved a 20 percent tax on raw materials. The move followed complaints that exports had fallen from 14 percent to about 2 percent after peso devaluation.
