Chamber of Commerce Membership Drive Opens Tuesday

The Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce launches a one day drive on Tuesday with 7 am breakfast at Drifter Restaurant. Co chairs Jack Davis and Leona Skillman report ready application forms for distribution. The event aims to add individual and business members amid a busy period of regional development and past activity including hosting state commissions and sponsoring major local events.

Cottage San Water Main Erupts Sunday

A city water main in the Cottage San area ruptured Sunday when private highway construction tore it. A work crew responded quickly and water service was restored within about an hour with no additional damage reported.

Rancher Suffers Broken Leg In Mountain Fall

Grant County rancher Crumbley fractures a leg when his horse fell while climbing out of a draw on the north side of Pinos Altos mountain. He was riding with Clint Johnson Jr and taken to Hillcrest Hospital for treatment, now convalescing at home.

A symposium on inter race relations is planned for 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary s hall hosted by the Home and School Association. Nixon Endorsed by Chicago Daily News for President

The Chicago Tally News backed Richard M. Nixon for president, arguing he is superior to Hubert Humphrey on key national issues. The Daily News, which endorsed Johnson in 1964, praised Nixon as clearly better in vital areas and criticized Humphrey for aligning with Johnson's Vietnam policies.

Two Injured In Head on Collision Here

A head on collision on the road between the old Ft. Bayard highway and Highway 190 at 11728 a.m. left Mrs. Agnes Pavey 68 of Bayard hospitalized at Hillcrest General. Glen Estes 21 suffered facial injuries and a bruised knee but was not hospitalized. State Patrolman Gene Tow investigated the crash. H and K Ambulance transported the injured.

Paul Wright Wins Freberg Trophy Shoot

Linemen Ol me Grant County and Hurley gun clubs met Sunday to shoot for the Bob Freberg Trophy. Paul Wright of Silver City won with a 277 7 using a 308 rifle with iron sights. Walter Mitchell placed second with 252 3X and Ray Rivera was third with 232 2%. Others included George Culp and donor Bob Freberg.

Apollo 7 set for Atlantic splashdown to end 11 day mission

Apollo 7 astronauts Navy Captain Walter M. Schirra Jr Donn F. Eisele and Walter Cunningham prepared for reentry and splashdown in the Atlantic Tuesday after a day of tensions with Mission Control over unplanned tests and flight plan changes.
