Tillis Wins Best Entertainer At Country Music Awards

Mel Tillis won entertainer of the year at the 18th annual Country Music Association awards in Nashville. Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson led with three awards including single of the year for Good Hearted Woman. Dolly Parton and Ronnie Milsap also won top vocal honors. Parton commented on future improvements. Billy Wells and Paul Cohen entered the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Meat Production Drops In State

New Mexico Crop and Livestock Reporting Service shows August red meat production at 26,997,000 pounds dressed weight, down 6 percent from August 1975 and 3 percent from July, though still the second largest August figure. Cattle slaughter totaled 44,000 with an average liveweight of 1,005 pounds. Sheep and lambs numbered 6,600 with 99 pound liveweight, while hogs reached 9,100 head at 230 pounds.
