Nine Cosa Nostra members were arrested in western New York and Ontario on charges of operating illegal activities including gambling bookmaking and loan sharking. The loot base was a Niagara Falls funeral home linked to Stefano Magaddino head of the western New York family. No Injuries From Service Station Blast
An explosion at Doug's Service Station on College Avenue at 6 55 p m Tuesday blew a window from the door and started fires but caused no injuries. Fire Chief Joan Toledo said fumes seeped into an area with a gas heater, causing the blast. Employee David Bradshaw was on duty. the station is operated by Douglas McClendon of Silver City. A dry type fire extinguisher quickly contained the fire and fire department aid was not required.

Frontier Flight Delays Snowbound Silver City Flights
Frontier Airlines announced cancellations and delays due to heavy snow. The 5 p.m. flight to Phoenix Tuesday failed to land at Silver City Grant County airport because runways were snow covered. Arenas Valley Home Damaged By Fire Today
A home owned by Mr and Mrs Walter Dunn near Arenas Valley on Highway 1B0 was damaged by a daytime fire caused by a wiring short circuit. Eight Silver City firemen arrived around 9 40 a m to extinguish flames spreading from a closet into a chilling area. The occupants were uninjured and damage estimates were not yet available.

Body Located 500 Yards From Camp
Albuquerque man James Warren King Sr. was found dead with a bullet wound near Pueblo Campground in Apache National Forest about 15 miles from Silver City. Sheriff Joan Lazowsky said King fired eight shots to signal for help, then crawled away leaving gear as a trail before collapsing. Autopsy results due tonight or tomorrow morning will determine cause and time of death. King's hunting companion, Charles Hinkle, reported King missing after failing to return from bear hunting on foot. The body was taken to Curtis Mortuary in Silver City as searches and forest personnel, Gila and Apache National Forest volunteers continued the investigation.

Smith Says Area Inc Figures Must Be Used
