Filiberto Gomez, visiting Spanish lecturer at Western New Mexico University, will address the Luna County Historical Society Awards Banquet in Deming on November 20. He specializes in ethnology and anthropology of the Tarahumara and has held posts in Mexico City and at the American Embassy in Mexico. The program includes color slides and his career spans education, literature, and numerous writings on Mexican Indians. SANTA FE New Mexico AP The State Health and Social Services Department must enforce new food stamp abuse regulations starting January 1972 despite funding concerns USDA denied a delay and asked for an August 1972 start HSS deputy director David Farrell said a waiver request is pending and warned New Mexico risked losing the food stamp program if not in compliance The rules require uniform national participation standards and would demand review of all cases to determine eligibility and basic standards of participation

On October 18 1971 USNR Mining and Minerals Inc filed GSF-780 with the State Engineer seeking a permit to construct a storage dam on an unnamed arroyo tributary to Mangus Creek and the Gila River in NM. The project would store 15942 acre feet per year for mining and leaching and redirect 15.42 acre feet per year from groundwater to the dam. Protest possible within ten days after notice publication.

The Silver High Booster Club held a teacher appreciation dinner for about 140 teachers and parents.
