Four education workshops will be offered in the first summer session at Western New Mexico University. Library Reference and Teacher Guidance will provide basic reference tools needed in every school library.
Preceptor Tau of Beta Sigma Phi held its annual prime rib dinner at Mildred Andersons home May 5. Mary Low Smith co hosted. Chris Schmidt spoke on the Tutankhamun exhibit from Cairo via Field Museum. Lora Blanton installed officers for 1977 78 led by Bessie French and others.
Albuquerque Board of Education discusses spending after a member questions budget items. Proceedings focus on line items and potential reallocations as the board considers financial priorities and public accountability.
A spokesman said the Silver City Woman's Club has cancelled its regular politick luncheon set for May 25 at the club building. A board motion to tighten spending oversight also passed, naming the board president and finance committee chair as control agents with advance approval required for expenditures.
Delfina Placencio Torrez 75 of Gila dies Friday in Tucson. She served 28 years as caretaker of Gila Catholic Church. Survived by husband Paz P. Torrez four daughters and five sons plus 32 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Services tonight at Curtis-Bright. Mass Tuesday at Gila Catholic Church. Interment Gila Cemetery. Pallbearers listed.
Milford Thompson a business teacher at Cobre High School received a certificate of recognition from the Cobre Co-Operative Education Class for quality teaching in the Business Department. The event featured guest speaker Janice Reed of the American National Bank, with Mike Arzate as MC and Dr. David L. Walker delivering the welcome.
