Two regiments of the South Vietnamese Division about 3,000 men began a dawn drive aimed at destroying a Viet Cong base camp southwest of Saigon. They reported light resistance, 32 guerillas killed, 25 weapons seized, plus a 20-bed hospital and an arms making shop captured.

Student Arraigned After Saturday Campus Shooting
Terry K. Johnson 23 of Albuquerque, Western New Mexico University student, faces aggravated assault and related felonies in Grant County jail after a Saturday campus shooting at about 2 am near Ritch Hall. A bullet entered a dorm room occupied by Susan Smith and another wounded Patrolman Richard McBride. Johnson was taken into custody in Silver City and arraigned before Justice of the Peace U. S. Canner with bond set at 10 000. He requested a postponement of a preliminary hearing until his attorney arrives.

Plane Crashes in Albuquerque. No Injuries Reported
AP report: a Navy P2 Neptune crashed near Albuquerque burning its tail section at 12,000 feet. It landed safely at Kirtland AFB with 10 crew, one treated for smoke inhalation. A second plane, a crop-duster, struck a power line, causing an outage in northwest Albuquerque.

Escapee Captured Twice On Sunday
A convicted robber, James H. Elledge, 28, escaped from New Mexico Penitentiary Saturday by prying a cell wall, then twice captured Sunday near Tucumcari. He was seized in a stolen car, jumped from Tucumcari City Hall, and recaptured hours later. Penitentiary officials placed him in Segregation. another inmate, Robert Wesley Miller, 20, Tulsa, was jailed for loaning his license.
