B&PW Federation Holds Annual Convention in Silver City

The New Mexico Federation of Business and Professional Women named Nancy Powe of Silver City as federation treasurer for 1976 during a three day Silver City convention. Officers elected unopposed include W.V. Reed Far mington Vera Davis Albuquerque Anne Haynes Alamogordo Madie Faulk Las Cruces Frances Murritt Carlsbad Elaine Prince Santa Fe. Highlights featured a patriot themed masquerade banquet, awards luncheon, and two Silver City BEPW Club first place awards. Plans were set for the national convention in July in Denver.

New Mexico Arts Commission Awards 59453 in Grants

The New Mexico Arts Commission in Albuquerque awarded 59453 in grants to 40 arts groups statewide. The Roswell Symphony Orchestra received 5000 for youth concerts, plus 3000 in additional grants. Santa Fe Orchestra and Youth Concerts of New Mexico got 4400 each. The panel set aside 5000 for Arts Month this October and adopted revised by laws. Dr. John R. Glowacki was elected to the Executive Committee. Next meeting in Santa Fe July 5–6.

ENMU Dean's List Honor for Karen Ingalls

Sophomore Karen Ingalls of Silver City is named to Eastern New Mexico University 1976 spring semester Dean's Honor Roll. Eligibility requires a 3.25 grade point average or higher with at least 12 credit hours. ENMU uses a 4.0 grading scale.

Red Cross To Offer Water Safety Course

The American Red Cross in Silver City will offer a Water Safety Instructor's Course this summer. Mrs. Mary Cowan an instructor at WNMU will conduct the course. For information and schedules call Mrs. Stuart Pinkerton at 538-2782.

Wilderness Name Not To Change

A bill to rename the Gila Wilderness to Clinton P. Anderson Gila Wilderness stalled in committee with no hearing yet due to protest letters. Senator Pete Domenici cited Anderson’s 24 years in the Senate, while Grant County residents preferred preserving the existing wilderness name.

Bookmobile Schedule for May 12 13

The Southwestern Regional Library Bookmobile visits on Wednesday May 12 at Central Senior Citizen Center from 1 30 to 2 30 and Central P O from 2 30 to 4 39. On Thursday May 13 it stops at Arenas Valley 1 15 to 1 40 and Bayard 2 00 to 4 15.
