Chamber Board Considers Tuesday Meeting at Drifter

A Chamber of Commerce board will meet Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Drifter. Lowell Cain, mayor of Silver City, will speak at the Wednesday luncheon on local progress and take questions from attendees.

April complaints near record for Silver City police

Silver City police answered 422 complaints in April, just 14 below the record 436 set in March. Police Chief Thomas Ryan says a complaint includes any call for help from accidents to removing dead animals from streets and family disputes. Calls to the department have risen over the past few months.

Tornadoes strike southern Minnesota causing multiple deaths

A swarm of about a half dozen tornadoes hit Waseca and Albert Lea, Minnesota, Sunday night causing at least a dozen deaths and over 100 injuries. Emergency crews rushed through wreckage as hospitals worked to treat the injured and assess extensive property damage across eight communities and surrounding farms.

Funeral Service For Huling Means Held This Morning

Funeral service for Huling Means was held today at Curtis Mortuary chapel with Rev. The Kev King officiating. Means, a Ft. Davis native who ranched in Grant County and later Albuquerque, died Friday at Hillcrest General Hospital. He was a past president of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association and a long time Mason and Shriner. survivors include his widow Gene Means and several relatives.

Mother Of Local Woman Dies In Safford Sunday

Mrs Jenne Whitmer a 7 year resident of Safford Ariz mother of Mrs Ethel Pringle and Mrs Genevieve Fitzaugh of Silver City died in Safford Sunday afternoon after an extended illness. Thirteen children survive including two daughters in Silver City. Funeral services tentatively set for Thursday. Mrs Whitmer member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Western Princess driven by University Club sponsor George McDermott won the two mile course in 13 minutes 10 seconds earning $125. Blow-By-You finished second with 14 10 and Devonshire third 14 20. Wind and rough terrain caused several wrecks and a crowd of about 2500 watched the event.
