Sparks Portrays Curly in Oklahoma at WNMU

Gary Sparks, a Western New Mexico University senior music major, plays Curly McLain in the school’s Oklahoma production. He describes Curly as an all American hero, witty and strong, and says the show blends staging, costuming, acting, and music. Sparks plans teaching as a career and aims for professional quality for Grant County.

Nixon School Policies Face Stiff Opposition

President Nixon's bid to shift federal school aid control to local districts draws early opposition in Congress. Chairman Perkins warns of loopholes and inequities and predicts failure to win approval within 10 weeks. Weinberger argues it would reduce admin waste and place funds at district discretion. Otting says the plan would cut aid to 1.1 million disadvantaged students while raising average aid per student to 300 dollars from 220.

Queen Clinic Aims to Train Young Queens by H and K Riders

The annual Queen Clinic, sponsored by the H and K 4-H Riders Horse Club with help from Jeanette Martin of Las Cruces, trains girls for poise and queen contest readiness. Sessions run March 30 at 6:30 pm, March 11 at 9:30 am, and March 31 banquet at Drifter. reservations by March 27 via Lucille Pani or the 4-H office.
