Local Contractor Could Bid On Tyrone Housing Project

A Silver City bonding agent says one Grant County general contractor and several in New Mexico can be bonded to build 208 homes near Tyrone for the Phelps-Dodge Corporation. Plans include a shopping center and fire station to be finished before Sept 1, with a project cost near two million dollars. A local contractor may bid after reviewing plans and schedule, with many area subcontractors available. The homes will house Phelps-Dodge employees.

Local Chamber To Hear Pro Gridder Speak

Don Perkins head of New Mexico Department of Courtesy and Information will speak at the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday at noon. Reservations urged. Perkins, a 29 year old ex Dallas Cowboys star, plans tours to promote New Mexico as a training site for the 1968 Olympics and will discuss athlete needs and state programs.

Loyalty Day Queen Contest Scheduled

Loyalist veterans sponsor Loyalty Day events with a queen contest for 15 to 23 year old women. Contest is an essay test, not a beauty pageant, with entries due by April 20 and judging by a panel. The queen will be crowned May 1 at Cobre High School stadium after the parade.

Youth Wreck After High Speed Chase In Hanover

A 14 year old Hanover youth escaped serious injury after a high speed pursuit by Patrolman Don Evans. The pickup refused to stop for a Ted Night and siren, then overturned three miles north of Fierro on Fierro Road. The driver was cited for reckless driving and driving without a license. his mother for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate. The 15 year old passenger was not injured. The accident occurred about 6 50 p m Sunday.

Lowell L. Anderson of Silver City serves as District Administrator for New Mexico District 4 and attends the Ninth International Congress of the League Baseball in Houston. Pallbearers named for the funeral of Mrs. Ruth Carter Jackson scheduled for four oclock this afternoon at the Curvi Morwary chapel.
