The Grant County AAUW branch elected Marlee Walsh president for 1976 78 at the March 9 meeting hosted by Pat Cleveland. Plane crash near Alva kills man and woman
In Alva Oklahoma authorities report a plane crash in a rainstorm killing a man and a woman. Sheriff Beierschmitt said remains were burned beyond recognition with no identifications found. FAA noted the craft was traveling from Wichita Kansas to Albuquerque when it went down. Witness Cliff Hada described a nose first dive into the ground followed by a blaze.

High cleaning bill for New York water cleanup

Wind Driven Rio Grande Fire Hits Albuquerque
A wind whipped brush fire along the Rio Grande east bank in Albuquerque burned about 150 acres Thursday. More than 100 city and county firefighters brought it under control by 7 p.m. with several small fires still burning at the ATC. No homes or structures were damaged. Assistant Fire Chief Owen Metcalf cited a drainage ditch protecting a mobile home park as a natural fire break.
