Mutiny Hits Lebanon Sparks Cabinet Session

A new mutiny broke out in southern Lebanon as Premier Rashid Karami met his cabinet in an emergency session to avert disintegration of the 18 000 man army. Rebels led by Moslem lieutenants joined by deserters pressed to seize an army garrison at Arnoun while loyalists halted the takeover and both sides faced off with hands on triggers. The mutineers said they joined the Arab Army formed by deserting officers before the January 22 cease fire, as Lebanon seeks a national unity government amid sectarian tensions.

Whooping Cranes Return to Idaho Birthplace

Four young whooping cranes that wintered in central New Mexico with foster sandhill crane parents are returning to Idaho. They left the Rio Grande area in February, were last reported near a southern Colorado wildlife refuge, and are among six that migrated to New Mexico for the winter. Officials are unsure what happened to the other two.
