Navajo Tribal Council Forms Special Investigation Panel
WINDOW ROCK Ariz AP The Navajo Tribal Council creates a special committee from the general counsel office and prosecutor's division to probe charges that outsiders sought to disrupt the reservation government. Tribal Chairman Peter MacDonald cites reports of plots possibly leading to martial rule. The leads trace to court testimony by John Harvey Adamson in Phoenix mid January 1976. Adamson, a confessed murderer, claimed talks with two men about bombing MacDonald's office or car. One man named Joe Patrick allegedly worked on the reservation as a spy for Senator Barry Goldwater who denies the accusation. The piece notes 1907 peak immigration year with 1.3 million arrivals.
