Bear Fire contained on Frisco District in Gila Forest
No new fires were reported on the Gila National Forest Sunday or today but crews expect wind and dry lightning Tuesday with a few showers. Mop up on six fires proceeded today and a Forest Service spokesman said over 190 fires were manned in the past week. The Bear Fire, started by lightning, was crowned Saturday afternoon and contained by 38 firefighters.

The American Field Service International Scholarship Program bus arrives at Gough Park in Silver City at 5 p.m. today. Sixty seats host 38 foreign students aged 16 to 18 traveling to New York City then Europe and the Orient after a year of study in the United States. Don W. Lusk Newsman Dies at 84 in Silver City
Don Winston Lusk 84 a veteran newsperson and longtime resident of Silver City died this morning at Hillcrest General Hospital. He began in 1905 as a reporter and editor moving through Denver Post Las Vegas Optic Albuquerque Journal and other papers before editing the Silver City Independent and the Silver City Enterprise. Survivors include wife Edith two daughters Wilma Richardson and Betty Fleming four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with interment in Memory Lane Cemetery.
