Shanahan to speak at Western New Mexico University Club meeting

GU Shanahan head football coach at Western New Mexico University will address the University Club Wednesday at 7 30 p m in the faculty lounge Miller Library Western. Members and spouses invited and welcomed to join the club and discuss the upcoming membership drive. Assignments in Alaska by New Mexico Bureau of Land Management firefighters began two and three week duties amid unusually dry conditions and early fires onboard BLM lands.

Silver City Marine On Third Vietnam Assignment

Marine Sergeant Charles Pierson of Silver City serves with the Third Battalion Fourth Marine Regiment in Vietnam. The unit conducts sweep and clear operations near the DMZ and runs civic action projects to aid local communities. Pierson is on his third Vietnam tour.

Early Bird Breakfast floods ward with 336 donated

Scouts and Beehive girls under teachers Walter Hoosar and Kathleen Jene Gen sponsored an Early Bird Breakfast on June 14. They made 336 and donated it to the ward. Frank Laney and Bob Maxwell traveled to Albuquerque Saturday to bring Mrs Frank Laney home from her stay with Mr and Mrs Louis Laney. Sunday school conference was held with Stoke Sunday School board members present. Visiting relatives from Grants and Tyrone and others visited area families. Arthur 4-H pig project deliveries and local visits fill weekend activity across the county. Aristide and Jacqueline Onassis left Nice for Greece aboard the Christina yachtsman voyage.

In London at 22 Bernadette Devlin Britain s youngest lawmaker announces she will leave politics within two years to return to study psychiatry at Queen s University Belfast after winning Mid Ulster seat on civil rights platform. She says she has done her job and does not wish to remain a professional politician.
