Illegal Search Victims Awarded Damages in New Mexico Case
U S District Judge Howard Bratton awarded five plaintiffs a total of 10000 dollars for illegal search and arrest by Bernalillo County deputies in 1974. Two former deputies and one suspended deputy were ordered to pay 1000 dollars in compensatory damages and 1000 dollars in punitive damages each. The suit, naming Andrew Garcia Noah Frank Fletcher Robert Mantoya and others, alleges excessive force during the Tijeras Canyon incident near Albuquerque on March 23.

Emery Named New Director of Marketing for GTE Kentucky
James B. Emery a native of Silver City has been named to the newly created Director of Marketing on the president's staff of General Telephone Electronics Company of Kentucky effective May 16. He previously served as business sales manager for GTE Service Corporation and joined GTE in 1970 after seven years with the Bell System. Emery holds a BBA from the University of Texas El Paso (1961) and an MBA in manpower management from the University of Colorado (1970). He and his wife Mary Ellen Carr of Fort Worth have two children, Wiane Gail and Van Lewis, and reside in Stanford, Connecticut.
