Sirhan Bishara Sirhan to enter a plea to murder charge in Los Angeles Superior Court case No. 4233421 on June 28. Prosecution teams meet daily to close holes while witnesses place Sirhan at the Ambassador Hotel scene.
The U S Forest Service reports only traces of rain in the Gila National Forest as the Box Fire in the San Francisco River box remains active with extreme fire danger. Reserve District crews manned and controlled the blaze while two-man teams perform mop up. Sixteen smokejumpers from Missoula have returned home. Silver City crews stay on scene during fire season.
A gun control movement spreads across the United States following Senator Kennedy's assassination. Individuals, stores, and officials push for tighter laws, with actions from Alan Schoening in Pennsylvania to Columbus and Dallas retailers, and calls from Gov. Volpe and others at national meetings.
John Henry Amy age 80 died in Riverside California on Thursday June 6 funeral services held at First Methodist Church with Dr Kenneth E Miller officiating Amy was born in Bangor Pennsylvania and served as high school principal for 20 years before teaching at Western New Mexico University later in life He and his wife Esther King Amy moved to Riverside in 1951 Survivors include two sons Robert in El Paso Alex and John W in Riverside a daughter Genevieve Neveau of India California 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. driver E Morrow, 45, was assaulted by seven juveniles as he finished a 24 hour duty for the Kennedy family. He was struck in the face with a stick near his Northeast Washington home and robbed of a wallet with 50 cents and three gasoline cards in Kennedy's name. The youths fled, causing no serious injuries.
Funeral rites were held at St. Anthony Church in Los Angeles for Mary Ann Bourland a former Silver City resident who died there last Wednesday. She was a registered nurse in local offices and hospital service born in Pinos Altos. Burial followed at Holy Cross cemetery in Los Angeles. She is survived by her daughter Lillian and three sisters Mrs. Katie Pena Mrs. Annie Moyer and Mrs. Elvira Saiaiz along with brother Eloy Manquero all of Los Angeles.
A forecast shows party cloudy today and tonight with a fair Tuesday reaching around 78 during the day and a low near 44. Expect a high around the mid eighties on Wednesday. Sunday's Silver City readings included 72/40 and the Silver City Grant County Airport 74/40.

Tucker, invited by Dr. Ralph David Abernathy after Bayard Rustin’s departure, aims to involve a cross section of Americans in Resurrection City support.
Nearly 60 000 visitors converge on Arlington National Cemetery to honor Robert F Kennedy with family members including Ethel Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy at the newly marked grave near the memorial. The day followed President Johnson declaring a national day of mourning as crowds gathered from dawn to dusk amidst heat and rain.
James Earl Ray appeared in Bow Street Court for two minutes and signaled a fight against U.S. extradition. London magistrate ordered no bail until June 18 as authorities proceed with the extradition process. Ray, using alias Ramon George Snayd, faces charges of carrying a false passport and a loaded revolver. He is sought on murder, civil rights conspiracy, and escape charges related to Martin Luther King Jr. King’s killer has been on the run since April.
The Silver City Daily Press reports the death of Prior Thwaits of Superior Arizona, who died Sunday in Albuquerque after traveling there for his sister Mary Alice Wilson's funeral. Military services are planned, with details to follow.
The Grant County GOP met at the County Courthouse to elect delegates and alternates to the State Nominating Convention in Albuquerque on June 22. Delegates named include Ber H Ormand Cliff, Joseph Brubaker Hurley, and others from Silver City Pinos Altos Central and San Lorenzo amid mourning for the late Son Robert F Kennedy.
Mrs Mary Alice Thwaits Wilson 56 died in Albuquerque June 5 after residing there 10 years Funeral services were held June 7 at First Methodist Church Albuquerque with Sunset Memorial Park burial She was part of the Thwaits family of Silver City and had lived in Las Cruces before moving to Albuquerque Survivors include husband Frank a son Micky Albuquerque a daughter Joyce Ann Juen El Paso brothers Arthur Earl Thwaits Douglas and Prior Thwaits Superior and seven grandchildren
