Mrs. Jane Hampton Dies in El Paso Rites Held in Reserve

Funeral services were held June 1 in Reserve for 37 year old Mrs. Jane Potter Hampton wife of Catron County Agent John Hampton after dying May 30 in El Paso hospital from birth complications following the May 28 delivery of her third daughter Heidi Jo at Hillcrest General Hospital Silver City Burial was at Apache Creek Cemetery with pallbearers named Friends and family described her as active in First Baptist Church Reserve Mountain Baptist Association Mountaineer 4-H Club Catron County Fair Garden Club and civic affairs Survivors include her husband three daughters her parents Jeff and Mrs Potter of For C and a brother T J Potter who is in Vietnam.

Wool squeezing machine to be shown at NMSU Sheep School

A power driven wool squeezing machine will be demonstrated Tuesday and Wednesday during the Sheep and Wool School at New Mexico State University. Fleeces fed into the device can be processed in four seconds, enabling ranchers to estimate clean wool yield. The event is sponsored by the NMSA Cooperative Extension Service and the New Mexico Wool Growers Inc.

Mrs DeLuna Central Resident Dies Saturday

Graciela Duran DeLuna 34 wife of German DeLuna of Central died Saturday at Bataan Memorial Hospital Albuquerque. Resident of Grant County 16 years. Survived by sons ages 2 to 16 all of Central. mother in law and several siblings in Mexico and California. Funeral arrangements pending Curtis Mortuary Silver City.

Grant County Sheriff Steve Ray Aguirre warned of unlawful firearm discharges by youths near Arenas Valley and Pinos Altos. He vows prosecution if the practice continues and reminded parents they are responsible for firearm safety training of their children.

Marines Smash Red Regiment near Da Nang in major clash

U S Marines crushed a Communist regiment about 25 miles southwest of Da Nang after two days of heavy fighting, with about 570 enemy killed and 73 Marines dead or wounded. The operation followed air and artillery pressure as a sizable force slipped away northward.

Derailed Cars Hit Hurley Home in Rainyard Incident

A derailment at the Hurley railyard sent six gon dola cars off the track after a switch failed to divert them. One car damaged a Santa Fe employee’s front yard. no injuries reported as workers cleared debris and four cars were returned to the track. The incident marks the third time runaway cars have struck the safety switch in recent years.

Local Chamber Sets Board Meet Tuesday

The Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce board of Directors will hold a board meeting at 7 a.m. Tuesday at the Drifter Inn. It is the first meeting with new chamber manager Johnnell Faris who took over June 1 after Betty Biggs resigned. The regular Wednesday luncheon at the Drifter Inn will feature First Lt. Albert Bassett of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol speaking on the organization’s purpose.

Patrol Hears Firearms Talk at Hurley Junior Patrol Meeting

AJL Bassett owner of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol spoke on firearms with the Hurley Junior Patrol during their Sunday meeting. The group, formed in January, includes 31 boys aged 13 to 15 and trains in traffic control and search and rescue, organized and sponsored by Hurley Police Department members.
