Kor Bellard, 43, and Derrel Dore, 27, survived a 90 foot underwater bubble as Progress Marine No.2 overturned off the Louisiana coast. Five other crewmen were rescued. divers and Coast Guard crews searched the sunken rig for the missing man while a damage assessment and salvage plan began.
Testimony shows Donahue probing other Houston sources of cyanide as O Bryan’s wife says he planned to drop life insurance for two children to cut costs. An agent testified O Bryan bought two 20000 dollar policies for his children while having no life cover for himself. He reportedly sought to file claims soon after Timothy’s death amid four counts of attempted murder in poisoned Halloween candy scheme.
Washington AP Administration officials brief a House panel to defend President Ford’s veto of a bill to curb strip mining. Frank G. Zarb and six Interior officials will testify as Udall asserts the administration figures are inflated and a veto override could follow. The debate centers on environmental protections, coal production impact, and energy costs.
William L. Rice 39, a group leader in Fiscal and Accounting Management at the Forest Service headquarters in Washington, D.C., has been named Director. He oversees fiscal and accounting programs for about three quarters of a billion dollars annually and the agency's vast forest lands program. Rice joined the service in 1974 after posts in Missoula and Albuquerque and on the Sitgreaves National Forest in Holbrook Arizona. He holds a BLS in business administration from Western New Mexico University. His wife Judith Bryan is from Silver City. they have two children and live in Fairfax Virginia.
Public Library announces summer story hours each Wednesday at 10 a.m. and Thursday at 2 p.m. starting June 4 for children three years and older. Sessions last one hour and include stories, movies, film strips, and puppet shows.
The Public Library invites children who have completed first grade and above to join the Monster Club reading program starting Friday, June 13 at 10 a.m. A Walt Disney movie will launch the event, with participants receiving a Monster Club poster and pin, and the program runs through August.
Mount Prospect Illinois 16 year old Tom Leicht was named pinball wizard of 1975 at the first U S Open Pinball Championship. He won a trophy and 575 dollars.
Ronald Wayne Gosnell 18 died Sunday from injuries in a car accident. He was a lifelong Grant County resident and is survived by his father Donald his mother Lorraine one brother Randall Lee and his grandmother Mrs Frances Gosnell. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clifford Hutton officiating. Interment will follow in Ft Bayard National Cemetery.
Washington AP reports pork producers face good market prices through early 1976 due to breeding herd cuts since last summer. USDA notes Q1 output fell 10 percent from a year ago, with further drops expected April-June and potential 15 to 20 percent decline July–December. Prices for slaughter hogs May 15 averaged 45.10 per 100 pounds, likely 45 to 47 this summer, with possible peak over 50 in July.
