Emergency Conversion Fund Needed for Villa Solano Site

ROSWELL AP emergency funds are needed to convert the former Villa Solano State School near Hagerman into a minimum security prison by January. Corrections Secretary Ed Mahr said a recommendation would be ready this week after the Corrections Commission urged a study. The plan excludes juvenile detention use.

N M Receives 223000 For Water Development

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will gain 223000 dollars from a federal drought relief fund to build water catchments wells and windmills across state wildlife areas. Planned projects include water development at Seven Springs Hatchery wells at Bernardo La Joya Marquez Rio Chama and Barker areas windmills at Fort Wingate and Marques and water rights for McAllister and Jackson Lakes.

Free immunization clinics begin in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE AP New Mexico health officials said free weekly immunization clinics start Monday across the state to vaccinate preschoolers against measles polio diphtheria and tetanus Dr Jonathan Mann the state epidemiologist warned measles can cause encephalitis and mental retardation and noted over 250 measles cases this year vs 40 in 1975 1976 He cited border factors with Mexico as polio remains a concern and urged border awareness to prevent paralytic cases

Kuwait To Import Farm Goods Shifts Higher Exports

Kuwait, a major oil producer in the Middle East, plans to import about $520 million in farm commodities this year, up from $435 million in 1976. The United States’ share is rising slowly and may reach about $21 million, roughly 3 percent of Kuwait’s total, versus $15 million in exports to Kuwait last year.
