Copper CowBelles Meet at Bar Lazy D Ranch July Gathering

The Copper CowBelles convened at the Bar Lazy D Ranch for their July meeting led by Vice-President Betty Salate with Pat Bagby as Historian. Members enjoyed a Fourth of July dance at Mimbres, heard committee reports, and noted upcoming events including a State CowBelle cook book sale and a mid year meeting in Deming.

Silver High School graduate named to Sul Ross Freshman Leadership Program

Lindley, May graduate of Silver City, is among 20 incoming freshmen chosen for Sul Ross State University's Freshman Leadership Program. The program funds $150 per semester for the first year and aims to groom future student leaders. Lindley is the son of Buster Lindley and was a top 4-H qualifier and youth range camp standout in 1975.

Jaurequi Honored For Salesmanship

Gregory G. Jaurequi of Silver City will be cited July 25 for outstanding life insurance sales among Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. agents during the 1976 77 honor year. He works with the William E. Ebel general agency in Albuquerque and received an award for newer agents. The honor will be presented at the 97th annual meeting at the Milwaukee home office July 25 to 27. Northwestern Mutual is the nation's largest life insurer with assets over 8.6 billion.

Women Aglow to Host Rita Wisdom Guest Speaker

Women s Aglow will host Rita Wisdom from El Pysu as guest speaker at a luncheon July 28 at the Holiday Motor Hotel at 11 45. The price is 3 50. A 12 20 program access is available for those not attending the lunch. Babysitting is free at the First Presbyterian Church 2th and Cactus from 11 30 to 2 30. Three youths from the Presbyterian Church will care for children who should bring sack lunches. Rita Wisdom s testimony portrays blessings guidance and grace to her family and ministry through song. Reservations by Wygant Calkins or Winnie Maxwell House before Wednesday noon. A men's retreat is planned September 16 to 18 at Cludcroft Led and Robert Kelly with Raphael Jeffreys and Sammy Opperheim leading. Also Los Alamos hosts a five day workshop July 25-29 on stability in superconducting magnets at the National Security and Resources Study Center with over 40 attendees including five foreign countries.

Governor launches 1.16 million Crisis Intervention program

The Governor's Crisis Intervention Program allocates 1,160,000 to prevent utility cut-offs for low income families and the elderly. Funds will be distributed by the Division of Human Resources to counties via Community Action Agencies and other local providers, with payments to utility companies and fuel vendors. Eligible households must be within 425 percent of the federal poverty line and show overdue bills, with a $250 annual cap per family.

Union meeting on Albuquerque Publishing circulation drive

In Albuquerque, the Communications Workers of America and reporters management held an informal meeting on the union's bid to represent circulation workers. The petition with the NLRB seeks union affiliation by all circulation staff except guards supervisors and confidential personnel. About 100 employees would be eligible.

Crash Still Mystery San Mateo Plane Fatalities

An NTSB investigator found no engine failure nor weather or downdraft cause for a single engine crash that killed San Mateo rancher Harry F. Lee and Albuquerque pediatrician Dr Paull M. Bicher. The plane nosedived about 80 degrees. autopsies ordered.

Perseid Meteor Shower to Light Up New Mexico Skies

University of New Mexico scientists say the Perseids meteor shower will be visible over Albuquerque starting Monday with a peak after midnight on August 11 into August 12. The display runs through August 17 and can be seen with the naked eye. Debris from comet Swift-Tuttle fuels the shower, a phenomenon recorded since 811 A.D. in the northern horizon area.

New Federal Lands Action Group Names All Members

Gov. Jerry Apodaca announced the seven appointees to the Federal Lands Action Group created by the 1977 Legislature. Members include William A. Buchecker of Santa Fe and Wyatt Atkins of Alamogordo, with Ern est Coriz Ernest Padilla Arthur Snead and George Scudella also named to represent state agencies and offices.

HSSD Seeks 22 Percent Budget Boost Ahead of Shakeup

The Health and Social Services Department seeks a 22 percent funding rise to 175.9 million dollars in state and federal funds. The plan is a rollover exercise since the agency will be split under a 1977 government reorganization into the health and environment and human services departments effective March 31. Agencies must base budgets on current operations despite the restructuring.

Colorado Jewelry Factory Barred From Selling In New Mexico

The district court judge banned Robert Jaramillo owner of the 1931 Jewelry Factory in Antonity Colorado from jewelry sales in New Mexico. The order followed a Taos Holiday Inn sale begun July 1 and cited alleged violations of the Indians Arts and Crafts Act and the Unfair Practices Act. Jaramillo was also found in contempt for moving inventory to Colorado.
