State 4-H Council Elects Officers at New Mexico Confe
Debbie Frost of Silver City was elected secretary of the State 4-H Council on Thursday during the final day of the New Mexico 4-H Conference at New Mexico State University. Over 300 4-Hers and volunteer adults attended the conference, with Cindy Brown Las Cruces named president and other officers elected including Jan Farrel Carlsbad vice president Zena Franklin House treasurer Serena Hadden Las Vegas reporter Greg Pargas San Antonio parliamentarian Lucy O Nan Albuquerque song leader. Denton R. Hudgeons Santa Fe was named honorary state 4-H member at the banquet, which honored retiring NMSA dean Dr. Leyendecker. The conference featured exhibitions by Stephan Corgan and David Corgan Dona Ana County and Lucy O Nan, Albuquerque, with Paterson Silver City delivering the keynote. Workshops on sewing rabbit care solar energy parliamentary procedure dish gardens and more conclude on campus Tuesday.

Burro Mountain 4-H Club Meeting Reports News
Sixteen Burro Mountain 4-H Club members met at Tyrone Picnic on July 13 with President Judy Billings and Sheila Trappman leading the role call. Kenny Moon reported on aluminum can sales from the trash-a-thon and a ceramic cowboy and horse prize was announced. A rummage sale and a hay ride were tentatively planned for August, with committees formed. Congratulations went to Kenny Moon for a District Elimination Contest medal, with several members also competing. A donation supported Kim Pearce for the State 4-H Queen Contest in Tugumeari on July 29 to 31. Demonstrations followed by June Elkins, Billy Billings, Linda Pearce, Judy Billings, Mike Elkins, Dennis Cook, David Moon, and Linda Pearce. Refreshments by June Elkins and Jimmy Kimble.

HSS Defers Action on Welfare Regulation Change
The Health and Social Services Board in Santa Fe deferred a proposal to allow young unwed mothers living with parents to receive welfare. Welfare Administrator Charles Lopez said the plan requires more study after the Tuesday board meeting.

Robber on Bus Falls Asleep During Hold Up
A lone robber boarded a Houston bus and demanded the driver open the cash box. He slept through most of the incident while the driver, John M. Mitschke, alerted police at a nearby residence. The asleep suspect was jailed after officers arrived.
