Schneider Olsen Promoted In Concentrator Department

Randolph P. Schneider and Craig L. Olsen were promoted within the concentrator division per ILA. Schneider becomes concentrator metallurgical engineer, after joining in 1973 and serving in the Army Corps of Engineers. Olsen advances from originator concentrator metallurgy to senior metallurgical engineer, with degrees in metallurgical engineering and mining engineering and a residence in Silver City.

Coal Lease Sale Brings 291 854 To New Mexico

Santa Fe New Mexico reports a coal lease sale raising 291 854. Details show 47 tracts totaling 26 381 acres with 185 774 in bonuses, 26 388 in rentals and 520 in filing fees. Highest bid 22 750 for 640 acres in San Juan County. Commissioner Lucero announced higher royalties and rentals to apply on future sales.

Gas Company Urges Lights Before Cold Weather Arrives

Silver City Central Bayard and Hurley customers are urged to light central heating units and furnaces before cold weather. Gas Company of New Mexico offers free light up service if requests are received by August 16. After that date a service fee applies as peak demand slows response. It does not heat the home but prepares it for instant service when needed.

Properly store asparagus ends for later use

Court Ruling Brings Clothes To Dancers

A three judge federal panel upholding Texas indecent exposure laws leads at least one nude dancer club owner to cover up. Ted Robbins, owner of the Tabbock club, says dancers still have right to dance nude but no bottomless or topless performances. The ruling lifts an injunction and may set a statewide precedent guiding cities to stop nude dancing where no alcohol is sold.

Schmitt Releases Financial Holdings in New Mexico News

ALBUQUERQUE AF Republican U S Senate hopeful Harrison Jack Schmitt released a financial report showing he paid 81106.85 in federal taxes since 1963 on an adjusted gross income of 292092.33. He urged Joseph Montoya to disclose net worth and tax returns. Schmitt attributed most income to civil service wages from USGS and NASA. He noted 23807.54 in deductions and highlighted peak tax of 23820.45 in 1970 on 33940.22 AGI, with 4941.11 paid in 1974 and deductions of 1678.60. He said he has lived on savings since leaving government service. A Guatemala earthquake section follows, detailing ground rupture observations.
