Bayard Youth Sails 1000 Miles Up Pacific Coast
David Omick, 21, of Bayard New Mexico, sailed a 14 foot sloop alone from Seattle via the Queen Charlottes to Alaska, a voyage over 1000 miles in 90 days. He faced 50 knot winds, 20 foot swells, was washed overboard once, and navigated with charts and pilots. Omick plans to return to Juneau by north wind to work the rest of the summer, the son of Roland Ruth Omick.

Keene dies in Silver City after car crash
Donald Walker Keene 37 longtime Silver City resident died from injuries in an automobile accident. He worked for Kennecott Copper Corp. and is survived by three daughters, one son, his parents, a sister, and three brothers. Funeral services Thursday at Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel at 10:30 a.m. with burial at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery.
