Bus Driver Institute Set August 2-6
About 1,000 New Mexico school bus drivers are expected to attend the 24th annual institute Aug 2-6 on the campus of Western New Mexico University. Institute director Bill Lemon of Santa Fe announced events include a Monday 8:30 a.m. assembly and 5:30 registration, classes that afternoon, a Monday dance, a Wednesday towadeo competition, a Thursday barbecue at Little Walnut, and an awards assembly Friday morning.

Adlai E. Stevenson former Illinois governor and U N ambassador collapsed in Grosvenor Square and died at St George's Hospital in London about 5 pm. He was visiting for talks with British officials and had appeared on BBC TV the night before. He was en route home from Geneva after attending U N Economic and Social Council sessions.

Former Ft Bayard Resident John R Carter Dies in Texas
John R. Carter aged 47 of San Antonio Texas died of a heart attack on July 2. The funeral was held at Fort Sam Houston. Carter, a former Fort Bayard resident and former Kennecott Copper employee, was the son of the late J R Carter purchasing agent at Fort Bayard. Survivors include his widow Janet Carter and children Judy Beedle and John Russell.
