Enrollment in New Mexico public schools fell from the 8th day count of 1975 to early 1976, with statewide totals down 4 388 pupils to 362 501 on the 8th day and 265 889 on the 20th day. High school declines drove the drop while grades 1-8 showed modest changes.
The Salvation Army H O model railroad and race car club seeks members to help build a 44 by eight foot layout on Sunday February 1. Building starts at 10 a.m. Bring your own hammer and screwdriver. Donations of used wire screen for mountains welcomed. Call 388 1250 for pickup. Open to all ages.
The Distributive Education Clubs of America banquet is scheduled for Tuesday February 3 at 7 p.m. in the El Paisano Banquet Room. About six people will attend including employees and employers and spouses. Also invited are Superintendent and Mrs Ja Lee and Principal and Mrs Fred Vega.
Public School Finance Chief Harry Wagak er says the state may need to purchase the Central Consolidated School District bus system at Kirtland to keep schools open and provide safe transportation after the Department of Education suspended Red Rock Transportation Co. operations. Gov. Apodaca backs funding to repurchase, with a 400000 bill sponsor and a special committee to study district problems for the 1977 legislature.
Silver High School presents a 7 p.m. talent show in the Little Theatre featuring Gilbert Rodriguez guitar solo with Danny Garcia, The Rebels rock act led by Tony Bro, Bruce Packard vocal quartet with LeRoy Keene Kevin Guess James Topmiller, The Trifles play cast Kim Coppedge Linda Wooten Ronnie Roberts Mark Booth Eric Moody, scenes from The Miracle Worker and Taming of the Shrew, Groucho Marx and Mrs Weiderman act by Kim Coppedge Mark Baath. admission charged.
The Manana Chapter of the National Secretaries Association met January 8 to discuss the upcoming February 19 visit of division president Mrs. Elaine Howard. The program of the year will be featured during her visit. After the meeting refreshments were provided by hostess Mrs. Pauling Presson, with Caroline Perez in charge of the program.
