Mayor Seen Justifying City Sales Tax Revenue Bonds

Mayor Lowell Cain of Silver City explains securing municipal sales tax revenue via $40 000 in revenue bonds for up to 20 years. He sent a letter to State Representative Murray Ryan in Santa Fe, warning that a proposed bill may strip cities of sales tax authority and disbursement control.

Cobre and Silver School Boards Set Dual Meet

A joint meeting of the Silver and Cobre Boards of Education is planned in the Silver High School library at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Washington AP reports Rep Ed Foreman of New Mexico was named to the Armed Services Committee, one of two freshmen selected. The other appointee was G William White from Virginia, chosen for key committee duty.

City Council Meets Today in Sil ver City

The Sil ver City Council met at 1 p.m. for a special session to address agenda items from a Monday meeting, including acceptance of former city manager Palmer McCarter’s resignation, bids for city vehicles and golf course equipment, land removal bids for Woodward No. 3 well site, and authority to proceed with specifications and contracts for a new public safety building, city garage, and water shop.

Measure Introduced in Congress on Halt to Aid

Rep. Ed Forenan and a 26 member bipartisan group introduced a resolution in Congress asking President Nixon to halt 91 US aid to countries trading with North Vietnam. The measure seeks an immediate halt to loans grants credits or food shipments to those nations, with Manuelujan also joining in support.

Police Investigate Two Robberies Here

Silver City police report two break ins last night. Silver High School suffered damage and a small safe was emptied of less than $26. At the Drifter Motel a lounge entry was made by removing door slats and prying open the cash register for a large theft.

The Albuquerque Youth Symphony of 90 auditioned public school and Albuquerque Academy students brings a rare musical event to Grant County this Sunday evening at 7:30 in the Western New Mexico University Fine Arts Auditorium.
