Chamber Of Commerce Puts OK On Sales Tax Measure

The Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce endorsed the town sales tax ordinance with one abstention. Two Trucks Overturn On Icy New Mexico Roads

Two separate Monday morning accidents left pickups and a one and a half ton truck overturned after sliding on icy NM 90 and Pinos Altos Road near Silver City and Tyrone. Bert Ward of Pinos Altos and James Edwin Sumpter of Payson, Ariz., escaped injury as officers cited slick conditions.

Mrs Grijalva 65 Dies at Home in Mimbres

Mrs Alvina R Grijalva aged 65 longtime Mimbres resident died Monday at her home. Survivors include husband Mariano, five sons Sam R Santa Rita Mariano Jr Robert R Dan R and Tony R all of Mimbres, four daughters Amelia Montoya Aretha Raybal Josie Acosta and Bellia Dominguez of Mimbres, 88 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also three brothers and one sister Manuel Ragcon Sipriano Rascon Daniel Rascon and Mrs Tiburcia Cordova. Rosary at San Lorenzo Church 7 30 pm today. Mass 10 am Wednesday at San Lorenzo. Campbell asks Legislature for 175.8 million fund

Gov. Jack M. Campbell asked the New Mexico Legislature to approve a general fund appropriation of 175.8 million dollars for fiscal 1966-87. He proposed a year end balance of about 13 million by June 30, 1967 and urged reapportionment of the Senate per Supreme Court rulings and repeal of the highway antibypass law.

WNMU Students To Have Seven Day Vacation

Western New Mexico University students will take about a seven day forced vacation after finals. Examinations end Thursday with spring registration January 27 and 28, classes start January 31, freshman orientation and tests run Monday to Wednesday. The Mustang basketball team travels Friday to Flagstaff for a Saturday game at Northern Arizona University ahead of four away games.

Roland D. Beach Dies Today at Hillcrest Hospital

Roland Beach aged 66 died early this morning at Hillcrest Hospital after moving to this area from Albuquerque nine months ago. Survived by three sons Thomas A. of Ajo Aviz Marvin E. of Hurley Richard R. of Silver City four daughters Evelyn Deaton of Albuquerque Edna Ewan of Yuma JoAnne Johnson and Barbara Peace of Phoenix 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren two brothers Thomas Silver City Everett Payson Ariz and one sister Edith Proud of Goldsboro N C The body to be shipped to Albuquerque for funeral services at 10 30 a m Friday at Strong Thorne Mortuary Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery Curtis Mortuary in charge of local arrangements.
