72 Hour Allied Tet Cease Fire Ordered by Westmoreland

Gen Westmoreland ordered a 78 hour cease fire for Tet starting noon Thursday for all U.S. forces in Viet Nam to observe the Vietnamese New Year. South Vietnamese and allied troops follow suit with a similar pause while fighting continues in other areas. The move follows a Viet Cong four day truce offer and aims to limit hostilities during the holiday period.

Teenage Corpsmen Build New Mess Hall in Silver City

Six July 1940s Job Corps cadets from Louisiana Georgia Alabama and Missouri are constructing a modern mess hall in the Forest Service workshop on Hudson Street Silver City They will live under Alpine Center style rules with early mornings calisthenics cafeteria meals in the forest and supervised community activities The project includes acoustical block ceilings fluorescent lighting and a dining area with a kitchen and dishwasher and will be a permanent Forest Service facility with plans for self supplied meals and a social debut at the Veterans Center under supervision of Job Corps staffer David S Rogers

Plane crash kills FAA inspector near Placitas

Searchers found the single engine Cessna 172 wreckage northwest of Placitas where 56 year old Federal Aviation Agency inspector Frank W. Cazier, of Albuquerque, died likely at impact. He had been en route to observe March of Dimes air activity and left Coronado Airport less than ten minutes earlier. Funeral plans were pending.
