Winners were chosen by the Town and Country Garden Club in Silver City for the Christmas lighting contest coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce. Sweepstakes winner was W. L. Donohue Wounded In Vietnam Near Da Nang
Pvt. Frank J. Donohue of the 1st Battalion Marine unit was wounded about 20 miles south of Da Nang on December 20 while serving in Viet Nam. He has been evacuated for hospitalization. exact hospital location not disclosed. He is a Silver City native and Silver High School graduate who enlisted in May after graduation.

Arson charges were filed in a Silver City Justice court against Calvin Vanworth of Bayard. State Policeman Don Evans filed the complaint. Vanworth is held in Grant County jail on a five thousand dollar bond.
