The federal government plans a grand jury inquiry into the Kent State University shootings that killed four students during an April 1970 protest. Judge Thomas Lami Aros will begin selecting a grand jury Tuesday as prosecutors prepare to present evidence.
Denise Bleak of Bayard daughter of Mr and Mrs Darwin Bleak is a candidate for FFA Sweetheart of the Cobre Chapter. She bakes assorted delicacies for special orders and offers a poodle puppy as a money making project for the chapter. Contact Miss Bleak for further details.
The C C Snell Junior High music department will hold a gradual Christmas Concert Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the Snell Gymnasium. The Snell A band directed by Ralph Sgenz Jr. and the Snell chorus led by Jack Rein with Cheryl Lett accompanying will perform.
A Christmas program will be held Thursday at 7 pm at the United Methodist Church by Bayard. The choir will present a cantata titled "Rave Transensitg" under Mrs. Bob Simpson. The youth will be represented, with a program planned and written by UME members. Communion will be offered and nursery will be available.
Alaska officials weigh support for a multi billion dollar gas pipeline from Alaska to Midwest and Canada Gulf coast. The plan links Arctic Gas and Trans Canada lines, aims to transport North Slope gas to markets, and hinges on governor legislative backing and federal approval as Alaska seeks firm commitments.
The First Baptist Church kindergarten will present a Christmas program on Thursday December 20 at 7:30 PM in the church sanctuary at 2000 Swan St. The public is invited with no charge. A reception in the education building will follow with assorted cards and music. a small donation is requested.
The Cobre Future Farmers of America named Mike Head president after a week of Greenhands tour and events. Head led decorations and refreshments and represented the chapter at Truth or Consequences in the creed contest while Hatch won the parliamentary procedure contest and Cobre placed fifth. The group announced its annual Sweetheart Dance for December 21 with crowning of the sweetheart and attendants, followed by a Western dance at the Cobre High School auditorium.
Ipsilan Chapter of beta Kappa Gamma initiated four new members Saturday in a formal ceremony. Mrs. Maen Hathorne of Clif, Mr tha Lite, Mrs. Ruth Rydberg, and Mrs. Adleen Sontag joined the educational honor society, founded in 1824, which emphasizes professional achievement and service.
