In Rhodesia the Rhodesian ridgeback faces possible identity change as the country moves toward majority rule. Four club members propose renaming the breed African ridgeback to reflect a new national identity. The origin traces to a Hottentot hunting dog crossbred with Dutch or German stock in the 1800s, with the breed now found in several overseas countries.

Basic Sewing Seminar Draws Senior Citizens in Grant County
Grant County senior citizens joined a Basic Sewing Workshop at the Central Senior Citizens Center on August 15 and 27. Led by Margaret Dines and Theresa Donohue, the sessions are for ages 55 and up and open to men. September plans include workshops on September 3 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Sixteen attended the last session, with a list of attendees from Central and Silver City. A hat workshop and style show are set for September 10, inviting all seniors to participate.

Local residents host weekend visits and club notes highlight
Mrs. Robert E. Schneider and daughters Peggy and Mrs Frank Zavala visited Schneider relatives in California before returning to Glendora. Past noble grands of Cactus Rebekah Lodge gathered at T00F Hall to assemble bouquets for the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. Delta Beta Sigma Phi activity centered on Beginning Day, heritage themes, and a Get Acquainted Tea, with new program books issued for the bicentennial. A farewell dinner honored Mrs. Judy Waldrop and Mrs. Margaret Merino. Big Basin Redwoods Park is noted as California’s oldest state park.
