Viet Nam Veterans Describe Navy Ground Air Missions
A wounded U S Navy veteran and a Navy Recruiting Petty Officer spoke at the Silver City Grant County Chamber luncheon. Bob Ingraham, a Navy Corpsman with the Third Battalion First Marine Division, shared combat experiences, while Andy Bistline, set to become chief recruiting agent for Grant Hidalgo and Luna counties, described carrier roles and Viet Nam era operations aboard the USS Midway off South Viet Nam. He detailed carrier logistics, infrared drone spotting, aerial defense, and high tempo missions. The Midway conducted 14 803 missions in seven months with 3 000 tons of ammo delivered and carriers rotated between Yankee and Dixie stations. Ingraham, on crutches, recounted his landing and current recovery.

John L Augustine a retired Lordsburg mining man aged 87 died Wednesday night at Res Haven Nursing Home in Silver City. Born in Ontario Canada he came to the United States about 60 years ago and lived in Lordsburg most of his life. He was a member of several Masonic and Eastern Star bodies and the Scottish Rite. Survived by his wife Myrtle and a daughter a son four grandchildren and four great grandchildren and siblings in Canada.
