House Buses Desegregation Bill Tightens Restrictions

The House passed an antibusing measure 282 to 10 after a 12 hour session. It bars cross town busing except as a last resort and restricts travel to the second closest school. Opened orders could be reopened to adjust desegregation plans, mainly affecting Southern districts.

Clark Names POWs Held by Viet Cong in Hanoi Letters

Former attorney general Ram sey Clark says he released a list of 17 men claimed as American POWs held by the Viet Cong and that he has mailed 114 letters from them to their families. He says the letters were given to him in Hanoi by a representative of the Provisional Revolutionary Government. The towns listed show the nearest relatives of each POW in 17 U S cities.

McGovern and Shriver to Visit LBJ in Texas

Senator George McGovern and running mate Sargent Shriver plan a Dallas Austin Texas swing ending at the LBJ ranch west of Austin for a meeting with former President Lyndon B. Johnson who endorsed McGovern. The trip follows a Philadelphia departure with an Austin overnight stay and no other Texas stops planned.

New Jersey Lottery Revenue Faces Tax Policy Limits

New Jersey lottery has produced 101 million for education in 18 months but is not a cure for New Mexico's tax problems. Lottery director Ralph F. Batch testified to lawmakers that the revenue equals about 2 percent of total education outlay. He outlined the New Jersey model with 45 percent winnings, 46.6 percent education, 2.6 percent operating costs, and 5.6 percent distributors and vendors.
