Democratic Leaders Back Budget Ceiling Plan in Vote
Democrats back a 415.4 billion spending ceiling for the new fiscal year to sustain the economic recovery, a move opposed by Ford budget director James Lynn who warns it risks inflation. The House approved the target 221 to 155, with most Democrats yes and Republicans no, rejecting cuts to defense and domestic programs Ford opposed. Democratic leaders insist the bill extends the tax cut and jobs programs that spurred recovery. Supporters Fail To Override Veto
Supporters of a vetoed Hatch Act revision bill say they will push again next year. Rep. William L. Clay notes the House vote 243 to 160 kept the veto, with 26 votes short of a two thirds margin. The bill would allow federal workers to campaign and seek office outside hours and outside the workplace under party labels, but bans campaigning during work time.

Dies In California Mr Henry W McKeen Dies In California
Henry W McKeen 73 died April 26 at his La Puente California home. Survived by wife Dixie and one daughter. He worked at a Hurley mill during World War II and was nephew of the late Hugh McKeen. Funeral services were held today in La Puente.
